NBOTW Author Defends Himself

The reign for the Urban Panther has ended, but we haven’t see the last of her.

This “New Blog Of the Week”, often disagrees with what the Urban Panther says, and isn’t afraid to speak up.

In his response to her claim that men need a GPS, he took offense. Part of what he wrote in his post is:

First of all, let’s get one thing straight: real men don’t need a GPS (French pronounciation is Jay-Pay-Hesse). How do you think humanity has gotten to the point we’re at today???

He’s sounding pretty defensive, isn’t he?

But that’s not all. He took another post of hers regarding men working in clusters, and claims:

This is called male bonding.

To top it off, when the Urban Panther started her review of The Manual (a true bad boy explains how men think, date and mate), this new blogger got on his soapbox. He asks all men to join with him on a crusade. He writes:

I invite all men to purchase a copy of the book and burn it upon delivery. It is our sacred duty to stop the flow of what we really think from reaching the women…

Have you ever heard of such a thing; one blogger picking on another is such a manner? It’s happening, and by reading this NBOTW’s blog, you’ll see it for yourself.

You may ask, why does the Urban Panther put up with it?

She does, because he is her husband, the “Urbane Lion”.

His blog is “Urbane Lion’s Den”, with a tag line that reads, “Lion’s guide to surviving the relationship jungle”.

Please join me in welcoming the “Urbane Lion”, and be the first to witness the dueling blogs.

Welcome, Urbane Lion!

Shall we take on vote on who will win? ๐Ÿ™‚

  1. I love the concept of the two blogs balancing each other- being complementary, yet distinct.

The fact they’re written by a husband and wife makes it even more funny.

On the related theme of negative comments aimed at other bloggers, I read Vered’s (momgrind.com) request for her own readers to support her against trolls. This follows her guest post today on Zen Habits.

I hope you don’t mind me asking here, Barbara, but could someone please tell me what a troll is?

    Thank you.

  2. Hi Scott,

The blogs do balance each other out, don’t they? It’s fun to read each side of “the story”, and get each authors “take” on the same subject. They make me laugh!

I also read Vered’s post on ZenHabits (plus her post on MomGrind).

I’m not a ZenHabits follower, but apparently Leo has commenters who show up who bash either Leo or a guest writer. It’s that negativity Vered is worried about. (Those that bash, are called sometimes called trolls).

  3. The playful banter between the two is highly entertaining. I gotta admit, I enjoy the 1-2 punch!

  5. Sounds like fun, but I hope that’s all it is and doesn’t really cause many fights in their relationship.

In any case, welcome Urbane Lion.

  8. Hi Barbara Ling,

How fortunate you are, to have a husband who builds software.

    Hi Natural,

They are fun to read, aren’t they?

    Hi Shamelle,

    Welcome to the BWAB community!

Thank you! Hope you enjoy the NBOTW.

    Hi Linda,

There is a lot of insight in those blogs, isn’t there. I was thrilled to see Urban Panther’s husband come on board.

    Hi John,

It sounds like they have a solid relationship. It’s all in fun!

    Hi Ann,

I hear you. My husband still calls mine a “blob”. ๐Ÿ™‚

    Hi Sara,

It would be great to see another duo. Let us know if you decide to do it.

    Hi Catherine,

You’ll have to read the Lion’s responses. It gets pretty funny.

    Hi Davina,

Haha, The Honeymooners. I wonder how many people remember them. I do! ๐Ÿ™‚

    Hi Ricardo,

You’ll love his take on her stories. The he said/she said aspect is great!

    Hi Vered,

Ah ha, a man after your own heart. Can’t beat that, can you?

  9. Hi Barbara – Great choice. I too like the idea of these dualling sites. I’m enjoying reading Urban Panthers posts but my comments don’t fo through.

When I leave a comment I quickly move on to the next blog in my reader and I didn’t realise that she had one of those captcha things when you’ve to to type the letters in after you’ve written the comment. That is probably why they’re not getting through.

@ Urban Panther – I’m glad you don’t duct tape your boobs. I tried that once and it can be really painfull.

Also, you should try installing Askimet instead of having the captcha – it really is very good.

  10. This is so much fun! It’s like the Honeymooners all over again!

  11. Wow! Now that threw me for a loop. I have to say my initial thought was, “jeeze, what’s with this guy? Urban Panther isn’t so bad.” Now that I know who it really is, I don’t feel as bad. I mean it seems to me these two are having some fun with it so I’m with it ๐Ÿ™‚ I mean c’mon, she’s funny! (I haven’t read his take on things yet…)

  13. Hi Urban Panther,

I KNEW you wouldn’t mind “passing the torch” to the Lion.

With the two of you having dueling blog, how could I not have the Lion as the next NBOTW? I think it worked out superb. ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m wishing you both much success!

  14. @ Barbara Ling – I love this: “Love it! Iโ€™m one half of a husband/wife team as well (he builds software, I use it)” I think in every relationship we each have our strengths and weaknesses. The best relationships provide the opposing strengths and weaknesses to create one heck of a productive team. It’s tough coming up with a weakness on my part…*grin*…oh, I have no spatial ability whatsoever. If it weren’t for the Lion, the leftovers would always end up in the wrong sized container.

@John – my mother raised this concern. Do you know my mother? Actually, with each passing day our relationship grows stronger and stronger, and part of this is because of our newly discovered shared passion of blogging. I can assure you, that nothing gets posted that has not already been discussed and vetted with the other person. It’s a team effort. Think of us as George Burns and Gracie Allen of the blogging world! *smile*

@Sara – the duel blogging can add a whole new dimension to your relationship, but I think John has a valid concern, despite my teasing him about knowing my mother. As with anything undertaken in a relationship, it absolutely must be done with respect and sensitivity. If you do decide to go this route, have fun! I know we are having a blast!

@Cath – thank you so much for the comment about your comments not going through. And I will definitely forward on your suggestion on how to remedy this to the Lion. He’s the techie in the partnership. And as for duct taping my boobs, wow, I have heard of a lot uses for duct tape (you should see my dad’s slippers), but where the Lion came up with that use is beyond me. *chuckle*

@Davina – the Honeymooners! LOL. Except I don’t think the Lion, even in jest, would dare say to me “To the moon, Panther!” No, I think we’re a notch down from that. How about the wonderful Honeymooner spinoff, The Flintstones?

@Ricardo – thanks for jumping in to protect me *grin*

@Vered – oh you have no idea how much the Lion loves his food!

@ Barbara Thanks once again, Barbara, for show casing our blogs. We are having one heck of a ride, and again meeting some fantastic new people!

@ Everyone – thanks for the kind words. The Lion will be adding his two cents worth and thanks as well.

  15. Hi Urbane Lion,

    Welcome to the BWAB community!

It’s my pleasure to showcase your blog this week. I love how you and the Urban Panther have created the very first dueling blogs (that I know of), and are having fun with the blogging experience.

I have no doubt your journey will be a fun ride. We all thank you for creating a source of entertainment for us.

  16. Hello Barbara! Wow ! Thank you sooo much for featuring me this week. Quite unexpected. The blogosphere is new to us but reminds me very much of the BBS scene in which I was very active a few, well…. many years ago. A lot of camaraderie. We are having so much fun in this new adventure. As we always have the other “vet” anything concerning them that could be a little “borderline” we are constantly testing our limits. All in a fun and humorous way of course. Our cultural differences are a huge source amusement in our household.

Once again, thank you very much for the floor space!

  17. @ Urban Panther – LOL well not your mother, but I am a parent. Maybe it’s just fatherly instinct to worry. hehe

  18. Ha! Good luck men. Women got it going ON!

Oh, I know all about the male bonding thing. I constantly tease my husband about it. Especially when it revolves around fishing.

Personally, I like it to be 50/50, not that I fish much (once in awhile fly fishing) but no one should have all the fun and have someone do all the work!

I refuse to gut fish, and besides that I’m allergic to them.

I think your blogging routine will be very unique. I like this duel blogging venture. Break out the new territory!

I just wonder who among my friends will be up to it. My little sleepy corner of the world needs a sparring of this kind to wake up the dead. Ahehehe. Nice idea. I wonder how the couple are doing now.
