Blog Registry – Open Mic

Did you get your blog registered on the Blog Registry post?

Do you have any questions or concerns?

If so, this is the post on which to leave them.

I may have forgotten a thing or two in the rules, so as time passes I may be adding additional items.

My hope is everyone plays by the rules and we end up with dozens, or hundreds of names of bloggers who think like we do, and/or are looking to grow their communities and/or make friends in the process.

The mic is open.

The floor is yours.

Share your thoughts on my new feature. I’m all ears.

  1. The Blog Registry is a great idea, Barbara.

I imagine that it will become like a library of blogs- worth browsing through for new titles to read.

I’ll definitely be checking it out regularly… and checking in when I can 🙂

  2. I am at a loss? Where are your comments? I am sure you must have scores of them by now. For me, let me sure I get this straight. There are two ways to participate:
    1. leave a comment in your other blog post and intro myself, my blog and what it is about.
It will remain on that comment page and that’s it…hopefully others will see and connect.

    2. Write a special blog post that welcomes first time readers (in wordpress.com I think it will get buried. Not sure how to bring it front and center all the time) and trackback to you, so you can check it out, and see if you want to list it in like a blog roll of sorts on your site? Many sites of course linking to yours, which is in fact, one cardinal rule of blog ranking.

    Do I have it? 🙂
And how did I miss the comments?

    Thanks
    Harmony

  3. No questions, but I think it’s a great idea Barbara! I added my blogs to the list and can’t wait to read the other submissions. Eric.

  5. Hi Harmony – Are you looking for the entries for the Blog Registry? They can be found on the Blog Registry post.

Yes, you can either do what others have done write a comment about yourself and your blog, or you can write a “welcome” page to which you would provide a link to in your “comment”. Although the page will get buried on your blog, the link to it will remain intact in your Blog Registry entry. Does that make sense?

Hi Scott – I know you’ll be adding your blog as soon as it’s live. I can’t wait. 🙂

Hi Robin – You’re welcome. Glad you like the idea.

Hi Eric – I see you got both of your blogs registered. I was hoping you would.

Hi Panther – Thanks! I saw your entry. Good “sales pitch”.

Hi Betsy – You’re welcome! Sure, come on by. I’d love a cup of fresh coffee. 🙂

Hi John – You’re welcome. We do like good karma, don’t we? Although I realize this will help my traffic, it actually about helping others getting their blogs found and building community.

Your link is fine. I know you well enough to know you would never spam me. 🙂

Hi Catherine – You’re welcome. You’re entry is great. I hear you about getting upset when others try (and do) scam us (or others). One thing I love about your blog is that you’ve “been there” and write from experience and never mince words.

  6. Great idea, Barbara. Hopefully this will also have the side effect of driving traffic here as well (good karma, right?).

I did bend the rules on one account though and I hope you don’t mind. Instead of linking to my blog with the one allowed link, I linked to our WordPress web hosting page where we help people get online. If you prefer blogs only, please feel free to remove the link.

Thanks again for the generous opportunity and best of luck to you as well.

  7. Hi Catherine – Yes, that post will remain in my sidebar, hopefully forever. I’ll leave the link in it to this post for those who have questions, etc.

I’d certainly appreciate you, or anyone else blogging about it. My hope is to also use it as a resource for my New Bog Of The Week (NBOTW) series. I see we already have a few new faces.

My thought is, by leaving it in the sidebar, it won’t get buried in my archives either.

I’m hoping I’ve thought this out thoroughly. If you, or anyone else sees why it wouldn’t work, I’m open to suggestions or additional ideas.

Thank you Catherine, for helping to promote it.

  8. Hi Barbara – I listed my blog. Thank you – I hope I did it right. What a wonderful idea. I’m afraid I might have gone on too long in the what you can find in my blog section.

But I’m sick of reading blogs that advise people on business, yet they’ve never had any business experience before – advising other people to run a business.

The reason I’m so against them is that before I started my last business, I paid a so called business coach around $10,000 to help me on my areas of weakness. She only did about 5 hours work. It soon became apparent that she’d lied about her previous experience – she was just part of some scammy franchise. It was like throwing money down the drain and I’d hate to see others do the same.

It was my own fault – I don’t do consultancy work and I should have realised that nobody with a decent amount of business experience would – unless they were desperate. Anyone who has owned a business for a while would know better than to trade their time for money like that. Mind you – most of us wouldn’t charge the equivalent of $2000 per hour either.

  10. Hi Barbara – Thanks Barbara. Are you going to do this so folk can come along and add their blog at any time, not just in this thread? It didn’t occur to me until Robin mentioned BlogCatalogue.

That would be brilliant. I will blog about it also, to get some more folk to list themselves.

  11. Hi to all – Just a quick note. If you register and don’t see your entry within 24 hours or so, let me know. Some comments are ending up in moderation, however, others are ending up in my spam folder. This blog attracts a lot of spam, so I’m digging through all of it so as not to miss your entry.

I can be contacted via my contact page – in the header.

    Thanks for your patience.

  12. Hi All – Me again.

The “Blog Registry” page got Stumbled and crashed my server for a period of time. If that happens again, just check back in a few minutes and it should be back up.

To whomever Stumbled it, “thank you”.

  13. I posted a comment there after reading this reminder 😉

Am I supposed to something else for registering? err…

    Cheers,
    Ajith

  14. Hi Avani – Thank you. I noticed there are a few new ones, too. I’ll be checking their blogs later this weekend.

Hi Davina – You’re welcome. Let’s see how your link works out. If I have to do anything on my end, just let me know. I’m guessing it should be fine.

Good thing I’m home THIS weekend. I’ll be checking for new entrants. FUN!

  15. Hi Barb,
I get it now. I was the first one here. Simple. 🙂
It was midnight or 1am so I will chalk it up to sleepwalking.
    Thanks for the clarity.

Thanks for this opportunity. What are you going to be doing THIS weekend? 😉

  20. Barb,
This is another example of your willingness to open your blog – and your heart – to other bloggers. Thank you.
I do have one question, if you don’t mind. You state”…bloggers who think like we do, and are looking to grow their communities and make friends in the process.”
I don’t mean to get caught up in semantics, but is this THREE things or TWO?
Is it: think like we do, look to grow communities and make friends; OR
think like we do in ORDER to grow communities and make friends.
If “think like we do” stands alone, I’m not certain that I belong. I’ve made no secret that I don’t believe I “think” like the vast majority of bloggers. Could you please elaborate a bit? I do not want to be deciptive while you are being charitable.

    Thanks,
    Rita

  21. Hi Marelisa – I saw you’ve added your blog. Have a great weekend, too.

Hi Rita – You’re welcome. I realize we all do not think the same. I guess what I need to do is add a couple of “and/or”‘s to that statement so as not to confuse others. Consider it done. 🙂

  22. Hi Bamboo – Thank you. Don’t forget to add your blog to the Blog Registry, too. I’m sure many would thoroughly enjoy the posts you and Flying Llama Fish write.

  23. This is a great idea. Many things make a successful blog.

Great writing, good arguments, thought provoking, and more…

But good ideas, as this one is – is another.

  24. Barbara,

You never cease to amaze me with your endless giving to help others. Thank you for this great way to help us promote our blogs. I now have a welcome page, but I haven’t thought about adding my best or most commented posts there. I think I’ll do that and then come back and add my link there. Thanks again for all you do!!!

  26. Hi Barbara. Thanks for the opportunity to promote, great idea. My blog is updated six days a week. There you will find daily headlines and links, a daily caption contest, links to noteworthy websites, and funny videos. There are weekly features and regular guest columnists, most of whom are from the Funnyordie.com community.
