Add “Subscribe Me” Plugin To Your Blog

The “Subscribe Me” plugin is a great tool to add to your site, and encourage readers to subscribe to your blog.

On the right side bar of this page, you will see “Subscribe”, in a rectangular box (Update: I have since removed this plugin). It has a drop down feature, and gives my readers many options for subscribing. Granted, they can also click on “the big orange button” in my header, however, I like to give my readers as many choices as possible. 🙂

The “Subscribe Me” plugin can be found at: Semiologic.com. As with any plugin, it just entails downloading, activating the plugin, and inserting a piece of code anywhere in your template.

You will end up with a “Subscribe Me” section, under “Options” (WordPress). There, you can customize the plugin.

It’s fast. It’s easy. And, it gives your readers another option for subscribing to your blog.

For this plugin, we have Denis de Bernardy, to thank.

  1. Blog subscription and RSS feed are areas I still have not understood the way to use it (as a reader as well as a blogger). A few months ago when I started, I subscribed for all sorts of blog sites I found, and then realized that my email box is cluttered with the notices. So in the end, I unsubscribed them, and now I created a bookmark folder of my 10-20 favorite blog sites, and just visit the whole list one by one from the top of the list to the bottom. (I am still learning all these blog tips and features!!)

So I have not put the subscription plug-in on my blog site either. Do you think it is really critical?

Or maybe, I must not be attuned of how to leverage these features…. I appreciate your further education!!

  2. Hi Asako,

I, like you, have had to unsubscribe, to sites due to too many notices, and time constraints.

But, I do get a fair amount of traffic on my RSS feeds, and like I said in this post, I want to make it as easy as possible for my readers to keep up on my blogs.

So, even though I’m not an avid RSS subscriber myself, I like to give those who are, options.

  3. hi nice articale you have give here well i have blog i started it just few days back its still newone and i am posting some my photos and cartoons and wanted to add subscription for friends. thanks

  5. Greetings,
I have been reading everything I can “google” about installing a “subscribe” option to my website. The page was set up by a university computer employee who has no time for further work. It is Word Press. Not being “compliterate” I still cannot follow the above instructions especially when it said “inserting a piece of code.” What?! Is there anyone out there who can help without costing an arm and a leg?

    Thanks,
    Alan

    1. Hi Alan,

I was just over at your blog and do understand what you are trying to accomplish. I have sent an email to a fellow blogger who is very familiar with WordPress to see if he can give you a hand.

Watch for future communication either here or on your blog.

      In the meantime, happy blogging!

    2. P.S. I was just over at your blog again and did notice you have a RSS feed in your footer. Are you attempting to move that to your sidebar, or did you get your problem resolved since you commented?
