NBOTW – For The Love Of Words

I can’t remember exactly how I found this blog, but from the very start, I knew I would like it. How could I not. This New Blog Of The Week (NBOTW) author has written about my home state of Michigan and another favorite; Alaska.

Depending on when you’ve landed on this blog, will determine what you’ll read. Some posts like “Seward” will share the history of a small town in Alaska, along with pictures.

But, if you land on a “Compass”, the author(s) gets you to think right from the beginning.

“How do we get to who we want to be? What are the precision points in our compass? When directions compete, how do we prioritize?

It goes on to say (in part):

Much of our prioritization comes from a basic need for approval. We want to emulate those we admire and we want them to admire us in return. Earliest, this would be our parents. Later, we turn to our peers, moving away from the influences in our home and traveling in the outside world. Suddenly, too, we proclaim that “we’re different.” But we take care not to be too different. While we might not want to conform, there generally is a sameness to our non-conformity!

In the post titled, “Proceeds”, the author(s) shares how words have always been a part of their life and why they chose to start a blog,

We wanted to eventually be free to travel and work at our own ventures. We didn’t want to be dependent upon single-source income, especially in recessionary times. We decided to begin this blog to document our journeys – posting about ourselves, our travels, our plans and experiences. And we looked around to see what else there might be. We knew we’d be embarking together, but what we didn’t know was how frequently we’d encounter others who had reached similar conclusions and had begun working on like-minded goals.

The words resonate with many. In fact, if you’ve been on this blog, you’ve probably subscribed. For those who haven’t found it it, the time to introduce it is now. The name of the blog is “Passing Thru”, and is authored by Betsy and Pete.

With a tag line that reads “a repository of thoughts, photographs, and observations from wherever we find ourselves”, you know you’re in for a special treat.

Please join me in re-welcoming Betsy and Pete to the BWAB community.

Hello again, my friends.

Enjoy your reign. 🙂

  4. Good morning, Barbara, and everyone – Thank you so much for this unexpected honor! I’m a little verklempt!

When we started our blogging journey, one thing we didn’t anticipate is the friendly, supportive community that exists here at BWAB. There is great wealth here – wealth in ideas, wealth in helpful support, wealth in togetherness, and wealth of spirit.

We truly appreciate the designation of NBOTW – it puts us in very fine company indeed. And we promise to do our best to add to the wealth of everything fabulous here at Blogging Without A Blog.

  6. Very cool reason to start a blog – documenting the process of creating the life that they always wanted to live. When we blog about what we love it makes the rest of the community take notice.

I opened their blog in a new tab. I’ll read it when I get home from work.

  9. LOL Barbara – I was reading the description and I thought that the NBOTW was called “the words in our lives”. And I was thinking – this blog sounds a lot like Betsy’s blog. What a coincidence that they’re both writing about Michigan and Alaska.

    Well done Betsy and Pete.

  10. Hi All – Again I must say thank you for supporting my choice.

I’m laughing at both Catherine’s and J.D.’s comments; with them thinking the blog was named “the words in our lives”. That would make a great name for a blog, so it will be interesting to see if someone picks it up. For Betsy and Pete, “Passing Thru” is perfect as it describes their travels, where they’ve been, where they’re going and how they will leave a mark on the world.

To Betsy and Pete – It’s an honor to have you as part of the BWAB community. I hope you’ll always feel it’s a home away from home for you in blogosphere. 🙂

  11. I also thought the blog was called “the words in our lives” which sounded pretty good 😉

Great blog, great content, and I really like the use of the Thesis theme. The more I see Thesis, the more I’m liking it. It really helps the content shine and it’s super clean.

  15. Hi Everyone – We so appreciate your comments. About the avatar – I just ran across the group of photos of myself from which that one was plucked. Trust me, not for prime time – way too much skin. 🙂

Barbara, we are thrilled to be chosen for NBOWTW, and thankful for the generosity and thoughtfulness experienced with every encounter on your site.
