Just Do It

When we start blogging, chances are we’ll find other bloggers who are sharing the same information we want to write about.

Some may see these fellow bloggers as competition, whereas others see the similarity as motivation to be better. To be different.

Sadly, some will be discouraged and not start blogging because they think they don’t have a chance.

Today’s Lesson

Blogs are like books.

We find dozens, if not hundreds of books on the same topic.

Each one appeals to a different audience.

In a lot of cases, the popular books are written by well-known authors or someone who’s well-positioned, such as the daughter of a prominent business man or maybe a politician.

Sometimes….a new author is discovered and richard mille rm52 05 men mechanical watch rubber band becomes an overnight sensation based on their skills alone.

Starting a blog isn’t much different than writing a book.

We can find hundreds of blogs on the same topic. Some more popular than others and like books, some are authored by well known individuals, too.

For the blogger, this can be intimidating. It takes confidence to compete.

But, like books, each blog will appeal to a different audience.

Think about the books and blogs you currently read. A book and/or blog can resonate with desmontar rolex falso one person, but doesn’t for the next, even though the information is basically the same.

It’s not necessarily one author writes better than the next; it’s how it’s presented. How it’s worded. And how the reader and author identify with each other.

Due to the massive amount of blogs online, some hesitate to Vaporiza?ní Pera online start and may be thinking, “Do we REALLY need another blog about blogging? Writing? Poetry? Photography? Parenting?”

Truth be told, yes we do.

Considering how many blogs won’t appeal to everyone, a new blogger has as good a chance as any to succeed.

It’s all up to you.

Today’s Assignment

Even though there are many blogs similar to yours, written on the same topic as yours, why did you decide to jump into the blogging pool?

Care to share?

  1. I agree that blogging is like a book and there are thousands of similar blogs and books all over the place. If you were to put in something unique and a bit of your own personality in it, I am sure one can go the extra mile and make a success of it. As you say, just do it. I personally decided to do it because I wanted to and showcase myself and put my heart into. Blogging is therapeutic.

  2. I don’t know that there are many blogs similar to mine, since I’ve always made this up as I go along — and the blogging pool was a lot smaller when I started, WAY back in 2004. I enjoy what I am doing and that’s what counts. If others want to visit, that’s wonderful.

    1. I agree with you Mike, back when I started online there weren’t as many out there as there are today. Though now you are fighting for attention from newbies…If you started out “way back when” by today you should have a good following…At least that is how I look at it. If you believe in what you are writing, no matter what it is, it will show.

  3. While there are several people like me, there is only one ME. I believe that I have a unique voice that I can contribute to inspiring others. That is why I took to blogging and that’s why I’m working on my books.
Thank you for asking this question, Barbara. It made me introspect and reaffirm my commitment to writing. ?

  4. I’m not sure. 🙂

I think I didn’t have a choice. I love writing and just had to put my thoughts and opinions out there. I loved that I didn’t have to go through a publisher but could self-publish.

  5. I see this blog world as more of an industry or a market, like any other. It’s a competition. Does my content stack up against my competitors? Well, let’s find out! I love the competition, and the lack of barrier’s to entry. Let the best blogger win. It’s fun to put yourself out there and see what kind of response you will get. Unlike books, which are relatively difficult to get published (I worked for Wiley Publishing years ago), any blogger can be published. It’s content that is the key. Not industry relationships or anything corporate like that.

  6. Your post is really inspiring for me, because honestly, I am a newbie to the blogger scene and I have just started my blog a couple of days ago. I really like the picture as well:) I hope I won’t give up!

  7. It’s the hope of making a difference and the thrill of being able to voice my opinions that got me started on this journey.
Your experiences in life, to a large extent, shape the way you look at things and how you put across the same. Even though the huge number of blogs/websites online can be very intimidating, it’s important to remember that nobody has had the exact same experiences as you have had and so you can always add your own special take on things!
As I am still in the early stages of writing, this is one thing I keep reminding myself ! 🙂

  8. Blogging requires constant creativity, but checking the news daily always feeds my personal thirst for knowledge and keeps posts current since I can write with a mindfulness of news. Even if I’m not the number one blogger, I’m exercising my mind and staying fresh.

  9. Barbara, I haven’t seen another blog like mine. That’s because I decided, in January 2010, to begin recording the diary entries I wrote on a nightly basis 50 years ago. I started with those that I wrote as an Iowa farm girl when I was a junior and then a senior in high school. After compiling my freshman year of college diary entries from when I was a student at Park College (now Park University) in Parkville, Missouri, at the present time I am recording entries from the summer of 1962 when I was back in Iowa. On September 2, 1962 I returned to Park for my sophomore year. I will continue this blog through my April 25, 1965 entry, 50 years after I graduated from Park.

  10. Hi Barbara.

Welcome back from your blogging break. It’s nice to see you back here again.

I have to agree with Vered. I enjoyed writing and liked the idea that I could self publish. In the beginning I was experimenting with writing and blogging, and promoting my business as well. So it was a combination of personal and professional interest that had me jumping into the blogging pool.

I could say that there are other blogs just like mine, but it would be more accurate to say that mine is like a lot of others, since I started adding grammar posts to my categories over a year ago. Other such blogs were around before mine came along. 🙂

  11. While there’s a lot of competition, you should also note that a good chunk of them would cease to be any competition after six months. And of course, you could well be the one to drop out from blogging as well.

  12. Hi Barbara .. it really is up to us isn’t it – if we feel we have value we can add in the world … then let’s do it.

I’m a generalist .. but have inadvertently made my blog different and I’m very lucky people enjoy their visits – in the process I’ve certainly educated myself.

I think I probably have opened the mind-door for others in a variety of ways ..

By chance I realised I could write, I enjoyed educating myself and have learnt much, I’ve learnt that positivity is important – looked on the bright side and seen what ‘opportunity’ might be there …… and the best thing of all is meeting many other wonderful bloggers ..

    Cheers Hilary

  13. I started my first blog about 3 years ago. Write first articles was hard, because I have no audience. In month or two I started to be a little popular and I have a little community around my blog. Now it is not so good, but I am still writing to this blog and still get positive reactions.
Now I am starting another one and I believe, I will be successful, I just need to write regulary quality articles.
I wish every starting author lot of patience, because this is what we really need 🙂

    1. Well it is hard to start a blog but once you get it going. it will be easy and lucrative. I don’t enjoy writing much but i hope someday i will.
      Good luck

  14. Hi Barb,
Blogging can be like music – lots of different voices, one is not necessarily better than the other, just different. I enjoy the differing views on the same subject, don’t you? Giving your writing a voice is what it is all about to me.
    Hugs
    SuZen

  15. Having similar blogs and topics is fun sometimes, different people write different matter under similar topics depending upon their own point of view. A lot of knowledge can be gained from these varied sources writing on the same topic as you.

  16. Blogs are like books – I like that and it is a perspective I have not previously considered. I guess the fact that many people are all talking (or writing) about the same thing does not make any individual voice any less relevant.

  17. Inspirational thoughts, especially for my these days. Blogging is a great and creative hobby/job/business, but it has got its own negatives as well. Sometimes it could be really hard. But there are hard times in every scene, the only thing is being strong and survive.

  18. Hmm.. Interesting post to drive the plagiarism topic in a very positive way 🙂

Well, in my case, I decided to blog to say things in a different way than what others think. Every individual is different in thinking and highlighting his/her thinking. Some are diplomatic and some not so. Some fear to talk the truth, some don’t. I thought, I can bring out a lot of social issues and my country/state/city specific topics and that’s why I started blogging. And I think my personal blog is different than anyone else’

In the case of my other blogs, many of them were started with the intention of making money and hence they may not be totally different than others. But I guess that’s okay as long as I see some monetary results, web visibility and fame.

  19. Sharing what you think of what you like will open doors regardless if your niche is very common. You can get to know your expertise writing of what you know, thus you will bring customers, followers to your website.

  20. Thanks for the motivating post! You are writing “Sometimes….a new author is discovered and becomes an overnight sensation based on their skills alone.” but is that really true? Or does a blogger need to know everything about promoting your blog as well? Or is skill alone really enough?

    1. Frits: Nice insight. I think that a blogger does not have to know everything, but they need to have some idea/plan of promotion. There are a lot of different ways we can promote or work now-a-days. I do not think that skill alone is really enough anymore. Maybe a lot of skill and a little planning would be enough, but there must be some type of plan.
I agree that doing the best we can will take us much further in the end.

  21. Well said Babs, besides the fact that there are hundreds of blogs on a given a subject, one thing can be certain is that the author’s point of view and expression can differ from others and help them stand out.

The growth of the internet/blogs gives us an amazing ability to express our differences and find other that share the same/peculiar interests and ideas.

  22. There are a few blogs similar to mine, but I originally created my blog to attract new clients. I also created it to answer the same questions that I hear every single day from people about my career. Whenever somebody has a question now, I just refer them to my blog. Makes life much easier.

  23. Since everything is open content in Blogosphere, it’s possible that some people copy and some talk the same. However since the consumption is quite high, I think there’s a space for everyone 🙂

  24. Be it a book or a blog, what matters is the author’s perspective of the subject and his ability to outreach the masses. Being written for a targeted audience or public in general doesn’t override the fact that it’s the content that carries the prime importance and not the intended recipient. As far as writing on the same subject is concerned, every author has a unique way of looking towards the subject thus presenting it as something totally new with the help of his creative intellect.

  25. If you possess the right blogging skills and decide to blog, there is absolutely no one to stop you from doing so. The power to write out of the box posts though many people would write on the same topic as you can be really helpful during blogging.

  26. I am against copying but taking inspiration form someone elses work and writing it from your own point of view is acceptable. Not everyone thinks the same way. You can always write on the same topic without your thoughts being similar to that of the other writer. Blogs give people a platform to write what they think is right and share their point of view with ther people.

  27. Barbara: I love your writing! This is my first time to your blog, but I will look around and come back soon! ( :
I agree that there are a lot of blogs about the same thing and that can be a big confidence battle. I want to be different so my blog is different and you won’t find another like it, at least as far as information is concerned.
I used to blog about blogging and that journey did not last long because blogging about blogging wasn’t my passion.
I would say follow your passion and who cares if someone else is doing it. Do not do what you do for another person, but for yourself because in the end, we only have one life, you know?

  28. Well written article Barbara, really appreciate it. 🙂

We write blogs based on our own thoughts, don’t care about others blogs. Each bloggers has an unique writing skills, surely their thoughts will reach their targeted audience. Copying content from others blogs is strictly prohibited. Don’t steel content from other blogs.

  29. some days ago I’ve read a article about conversation of true blogging. where writer emphasize on conversation that is important to return visitors. he said we have to make conversation with every blog reader..but I answered that blog is not like a social networking site..so do you think conversation really need to make a good blog?

  30. Right on! I just want to add that just like writing a book, the writer writes using a distinct voice. So you maybe writing something that has been written about a lot of times (as humans we share a common experience so we are bound to write about the same things). But your own voice as a writer/blogger will make you stand out.

  31. Hi Barbara,

Yes – It is true. With so many people talking on the same niche and experience fields across so many different platforms and social media channels it is hard to get a message across that they can’t find in someone else’s words. But that is the whole thing – people are creatures of habit. Once they don’t like you it hard convincing them otherwise. And the same applies to your blog – you might be more appealing content wise (look, grammar, quality of information etc.) than some of the others. Not to mention demographically – this has an major influence in your presence and amount of users being exposed to your content.

  32. Hi Barbara
Just popping in to see how things were going? I am about to start turning my blog into a brand and it will be a year old on 24th August 2012. Having though trouble coming up with what else to write about though now!

  33. With growing times, there is barely any topic left that has yet been unexplored. So it is highly improbable for a blogger to find a yet unexplored territory. Because no matter how unique you feel you’re blog content is, there will always be someone out there in the big world, who will have already discussed it. And for all we know, he might’ve even done a damn good job at it. But in no way does this mean that you give up writing a blog. You might not find a unique topic, but there is always a unique way to put up your content. There is also a possibility that your style of writing will be able to generate new audiences- the ones who never usually read blogs from your niche otherwise. This is the one thing that keeps me going. Also, when I have those weak moments where I feel like giving up, I remind myself that I’m here in this niche, because I love doing what I do. It always works.

  34. Just about every topic has been covered on the internet. What makes people read blogs isn’t just for the information, its also for the personality behind it. Everyone has their own writing style and personality, and when combined with information that’s already been covered, creates a whole new perspective.

  35. I’ve started my blog because I needed a place to share my knowledge and experience with others. Although there are many similar blogs on my niche, I consider that each one of us has something unique to share.

  36. Every good blog has something unique to offer. No two blogging styles are unique (unless of course copied). Rather than getting intimidated by the huge number of blogs out there, you should think of ways to be different. It’s not always the better that wins. Many times, it’s the different that bags the trophy.

    Thanks for this inspiring article!

  37. Interesting POST !!! 🙂
I knew that there are thousands of blogs which provide Health Related Tips. But still, I started a blog on this particular niche. This is because what I knew about being healthy is all different what other people knew. 🙂
One should try to share real life experiences that are always appreciated. 🙂

  38. I´ve decided to come from a different angle, I am going to come from my heart a lot more now, yes business is cold and comes from the head, we are after all, humans with emotions dealing with other humans with emotions and wants and needs, as you yourself said, it´s not how we write but how it’s presented, worded and if people can relate to you that counts.

  39. > Do we REALLY need another blog
That’s such a perfect question and such a great reminder that the answer is always … YES, with a twist.

We need to inject our unique value, and assert that to the world.

When we do that, and we do that well, we suddenly find that the world ins’t very crowded at all … because there really is only one of us running around.

That’s the power of being YOU.

  40. That’s an interesting take on things. I’ve just started a blog and to be honest the writing is a little intimidating. The thought of getting no comments after spending x hours writing is quite depressing, but I guess it’s all about being persistent an pushing yourself to be better. Showing a little personality would probably also help 🙂

  41. Great motivational post, however I’d like to add to your thought here:

“It’s not necessarily one author writes better than the next; it’s how it’s presented. How it’s worded. And how the reader and author identify with each other.”

While it’s true that presentation can be important, and skill can also be important, the truth of the matter is what separates the amount of traffic one blogger gets from another really comes down to marketing. This is the reason you can search for “[insert topic here] blog” in Google and often find really terrible blogs show up on the first page of results. These bloggers may not be skilled writers, and their presentation may not be great either, but they have marketed themselves so effectively to the search engines that they are given a seat of authority.

Of course, the blogs that actually ENGAGE with readers are well-written and well-presented. But it is an unfortunate truth that many well-written, beautifully-presented blogs never see the light of day because the people searching for them never find them.

So, I would absolutely agree with your points in this post, but would like to piggy-back and say that you should “Just Do It” and start a blog today… but start learning how to market your blog, too! You’re not competing with other blogs based on quality… you are competing based on real estate, i.e., your search engine rankings and how visible you are to the people who are interested in your topic.

  42. The competition in the market is growing rapidly on a large scale. In such a situation, when so many people are writing on similar topics and subjects, we mostly pay more attention towards the content provided by them, whether it is valuable or just some other piece of irrelevant text.

  43. Yeah I agree with Zvi, writing field is getting more and more competitive day by day and sadly some writers are quoting very low price which is affecting the senior writers like us..Anyways here we are talking about the same content, so I would like to say that every one has his/her own perception and way of presenting the things so if you are actually writing at your own, its all yours.

  44. Everyone wants to write about an idea that stands out from the other writers in their specific area, but go to great lengths to make sure it’s different enough. Reading less and writing more is the best way to create unique ideas that are worth sharing.

  45. Inspirational thoughts, thanks for sharing them! Actually, a lot of blogs are only built for SEO reasons, the other ones are really relevant and has a worthy content. I think, if a blogger is passionate about what he is writing about, he won’t fail.

  46. Good post. I agree that the competition is growing rapidly in blogging as well and a lot of blogs are similar. I think what differentiates among them is the quality of writing, and how the whole layout is.

  47. I must say that the title is very interesting. And the comparison you did is a real fact. I do agreed with that. But one difference in that is blogs have more competitors as compared with books because there are too much topics to shared on blogs as compared to books. Anyways the content is very nice. Fantastic job! 🙂

  48. It is a great post. True, we may find many blogs on the same field or niche, but every reader is different and you never know your blog strikes to whom. So its good to keep sharing your knowledge and expertise. As long as you offer good and relevant content, you are sure to find readers.

  49. Hi I have just started my blog only a few weeks ago, i’m still wondering what difference I will make. But after reading your post, there maybe thousands of similar blogs like mine out there but there are millions of readers. I guess there will always be people out there who will prefer yours from others

  50. Every job has competition, but that does not mean we do not take up that particular job. We need to face up these situations and come over it. We can take up blogging to an altogether different level and work it out in our own way differently.

  51. We know how hard it is to prepare a unique content, i would like share one of my experience. I had written some content which I posted to my blog but after some days when I read my niche blogs and found one of the blog had same concept.

  53. We must blog about something even if there is someone who already published something similar to our idea. Our blogs are our online journal, we may have the same idea but eventually we will recognize that there is something better that we can share.

  54. Blogging is the one that gives you complete freedom to write on what ever you feel like to. Today there are thousand of blogging sites that are trying to be ahead of their competitors. And in order to stay ahead of your competitors it is very important that you make your site unique and interesting in such a way that you get more audience and links to your site

  55. Awesome post, thank you! I think a “just do it” nike slogan is pretty fitting haha. But all joking aside, I think getting yourself to commit to some sort of set number of blog posts a month is the way to keep yourself going.

  56. Agree with the just do it part but these days starting a blog is so easy that I think the major effort is in maintaining the blog.

I know a lot of promising blogs that’ve just died because the blogger lost interest or couldn’t keep up the momentum.

  57. The main agenda is to start a blog and maintain it in the best way, market it, generate traffic and convert them eventually. For this, we need to write exceptional content irrespective of the niche we choose and if it is already used by some other blogger.

  58. I agree with you @Victoria. If you want success through a blog, you will need to maintain your blog regularly. Update you posts, adding high quality posts in regular interval. All these are very important to get high quality traffic. I have seen a blogger blog page which were built about 10-12 days ago and it just got PR 3 just because of content. 🙂

  59. It is a great post. True, we may find many blogs on the same field or niche, but every reader is different and you never know your blog strikes to whom. So its good to keep sharing your knowledge and expertise. As long as you offer good and relevant content, you are sure to find readers.

  60. I am retired banker from India. I have started blogging at http://webquestionanswers.blogspot.in/
just as a hobby. While learning ABC of blogging I came across your blog and I found it UNIQUE among millions and millions of blogs on the web. Only yesterday I had written a message but I think it might not have gone astray . A small piece of reply will encourage me to change my way of thinking.

  61. You cant give up writing on a topic just because there is already too much written on it. You have to write on it if there is something new that you can offer your readers or some additional information that you can provide on that topic. You can write anything just make sure that is not repetitive or similar as the other blogs.

  62. First, you collect you information from life, books, school, blogs, etc. Then you filter it through your life view and then tell people the information you have collected which will be different from anything ever created.

Second, where there is competition, there are people seeing more and more information on that subject. That is a good thing!

  63. Hi All,

Thank you for taking the time to share your comments. As I was reading through them, I noted how what you’re all saying can be very helpful for bloggers who are just starting out, as well as for bloggers who are questioning their topic.

Life and work is keeping me busy, therefore my blogging time is limited. I hope to be back to my regular schedule shortly.

Thank you again for your continued support and for sharing your thoughts. I am truly grateful. 🙂

  64. I like what you say that blogging is like a book. Book gives information that we need as just like blogging. furthermore blogging maybe much preferable because you could focus a topic not just like an open book that broad ideas are present.

  65. When I started my first blog, it was to share what I knew. There was definitely that fear that nobody will show up or care, but it was definitely something I’m glad I did.

  66. I begun my first blog three years ago. Write 1starticles was tough, because I have no visits .
Now I am begining another blog and I think, I will be successful, I just need to write regulary good quality articles.

  67. The final decision is yours, whether you want to go ahead with blogging even after having a lot of competition or you want to stay back and compress your ideas and skills within. It is obviously correct to go ahead, make a move and present your views in your own different way.

  68. I like the blogs are books analogy!! So true! There are lots of different books on the same subject!! And, really, every book is different because every author is different.

We should look at our blogs the same way. Guess it really does mean that our voice is so important to make our blog unique.

I started blogging because I felt like I had thoughts to share!

  69. I am just thankful blogging has grown to be such a big hobby and very happy for people how do it and share their knowledge/interest with others. Its like the quote a candle losses nothing on lighting another candle. The free model of giving out information and sharing knowledge is so powerful. I wish more people start a blog and put down just few words and to their surprise soon they will have a audience and loves exactly what they do.
    Tim

  70. Hi Barbara, your blog literally seems to be a book with it’s theme! 🙂 Your posts are interesting and thought provoking as is this one. It will be much appreciated if you or any one commenting here could advise regarding how a company blog like ours should be. I will also expect a future post from you regarding such commercial blog. Thanks!

  71. For me the motivation is that Internet is still in its beginnings with more than half the world waiting to get online. So, I believe there is lot of space for everyone even though your space looks crowded.

Having said that, it is always better if you can find a unique niche for yourself.

  72. Thats true that blogs are like books. Thats why it is so important to just do it and like what they are writing about. I think learning by doing is a great thing. You dont have to be pro to start a blog just have passion for it.

  73. I had started blogging in order to promote and develope my business, but eventually I started liking the art of writing down posts and articles about randomn stuff and some of my favourate topics that helped me generate traffic. Hence, I am just going on with this hobby of mine.

  74. Eventhough the topic might have been discussed previously at other places but if the writer has been able to put his heart and feelings with his post , the readers will surely find a new and fresh side of it.

  75. I won’t think that fellow blogger were competition, I have already made some really inspirational and great friendships during that short period since I have started my blog. I think it only depends on how open-minded you are. It is such a great thing. And I totally agree: just do it!

  76. These are excellent points. It is discouraging to start when there is already such a wealth of information available, but I believe the best bloggers persevere in spite of the odds and go onto to create really sensational blogs for us all to enjoy.

    Tips for Anti-Aging

  77. Your right we do need more blogs because different people have different perspectives and some bloggers will go into more detail about a subject than another. Some bloggers might agree on something and others might not so its good read both sides to get a better understanding.

  78. I decided to join blogging because I have a passion for writing and meeting new people. I think blogging is the perfect mixture of these two things. Blogs give me a perfect platform to put forth my views on any and every topic. From the time I have started blogging I have met some really interesting and remarkable person who have helped me grow and make me a better person.

  79. I like the title or I must say the headline of your post and such a start is already motivating me to just do it. I very much agree that I should not be concerned about other bloggers and their blogs and instead work of my own in my best possible way to take it to great heights.

  80. I did started to blog for the same reason as David, and well it helps any kind of business. I do like to write though, and nothing better then writing about something you love, isnt it? The thing is that i started to think… oh there’s alot of blogs talking about the same subject and well… reading your blog just made my day. Thanks!

  81. Such a brilliant text fulfilled with the most useful blogging advices! I totally agree with you, blogging can be done only because of passion, I know that there are a lot of commercial blogs just for SEO reasons, but the don’t have a long life…

  82. I think that blogging is really kinda strange, because you can use it for many different things like broadcasting informations and useful texts, but also for seo-experiments, for social experiments, for just having an external hard drive … there are so many reasons for blogging … and … there are so many blogs that you can’t read them all. information is kinda decentralized nowadays.

  83. I don’t know why people don’t have faith and confidence in themselves. They are so afraid to take a chance that in the process they have killed whatever ounce of creativity they have in them. People should write on whatever topic they want to and not care about anything else. As a writer they have the ability to write on the same topic without its content being similar.

  84. I agree that blogging is like a book , don’t know that there are many blogs similar to mine, anyways Thanks for the motivating post

  85. It is a great reminder that just because there is lots of information on a topic, that doesn’t mean that we don’t have something of value to add to it!! As bloggers, we need to just do it!!

I know I am guilty of feeling like a niche is already filled and that I am just wasting my time – but you have reminded me that I may find a different audience because I will have a different point of view in my blog!

Thanks for the great post, Barbara! It is just the prodding I needed!

  86. If William Shakespeare, Sydney Sheldon or J.K. Rowling had doubted themselves and their ability to write then they wouldn’t have written such excellent novels. You need to have faith in yourself. You just have to write whatever that comes to your mind and what interests you. And believe me when I say it will turn out to be a masterpiece.

  87. I guess if the SEO tools are used properly, then a blogger does not have to worry about attracting and generating traffic though many of them write in the same niche. Every niche has sub topics and every sub topic has more sub topics and hence there is a lot of scope.

  88. Barbara, a blogger personality makes all the difference! I think this is one of the messages you underlined in this post. It doesn’t matter if a hundred bloggers talk about the same thing, you can too. The key point being to offer the topic your own twist so that you bring value into this world 😉

  89. We are trying to do it and create our first succesful website. I think it will take lot of time. But blogs are truthfully like a book and needs to be updated on regular basis. Other wise it will be considered and history book.

  90. I started my blog because I wanted a complete site targeting Youths interested in Social Media n Tech. Though there are already too many websites in this domain but I am just trying to focus on those topics which really matters to youth.

  91. It doesn’t matter if a hundred bloggers talk about the same thing, you can too. The key point being to offer the topic your own twist so that you bring value into this world…Great article and very good helpful information i like it i am a blogger so i can imagine that how much effort did you put in this i am going to share this post with my friends as well thanks buddy keep up the good work…

  92. Inspiring post!
I really agree with the concept of considering the blogs with books. no matter the number of blogs present on the same topic, one can post whatever they desire without thinking of competition. Its all based on concept of a book. Nothing goes wrong if only limited people read your blog.

  93. There are lots of blogs on blogging, making money online or writing.
still there is lot of space for any blogger to share their views. I love to share and keep on doing the same

  94. I am going to continue blogging on any conditions, be it having competitors working on the same niche or the content idea being common. We all have our own ways to handle and mould the data and hence, I know I am going to come out with some different and fresh content.

  95. You cant give up writing on a subject just because it has been written about a lot. You have to understand even though many people have written about it you can explain the topic with your own point of view and using your own personal experiences. These are something no other writer can provide the readers. So always try, at least once, before you give up.

  96. “I think blogging is the perfect mixture of these two things. Blogs give me a perfect platform to put forth my views on any and every topic. From the time I have started blogging I have met some really interesting and remarkable person who have helped me grow and make me a better person. good post, thanks for sharing.

  97. I agree that blogging is like a book and there are thousands of similar blogs and books all over the place. If you were to put in something unique and a bit of your own personality in it, I am sure one can go the extra mile and make a success of it.

  98. I began blogging a few years back. When I started I saw quite a few blogs similar to mine and that discouraged me from continuing. I thought these people are really good. Why would someone bother to read what I have to say on the same subject? Some time later, I came back to the blogging scene. My return from self-imposed exile was because I kept reading these blogs and I realised that more often than not, the post would raise a lot of questions in my mind. I thought if I have those questions, surely someone else must be wondering about it too. What I realised was that a topic can be treated from different angles and not all bloggers cover the same topic from the same angle. There is no harm in putting your point of view ahead because to someone out there your point of view makes more sense than probably 10 other blogs on the same topic. It is all about perspective.

  99. Anything done sincere and with full passion always turns out to be great and is well appreciated by others. You must have confidence in your abilities as a writer only then will others take you seriously. Try taking risk every once in a while, try doing something different and out of the box. People always are huge fans of creativity and uniqueness.

  100. Great post and yes, I truly agree with you when you said that blogs are just like books. Blogging is a great venue for expressing ourselves and sharing what we know to people. Everyone has his/her own writing style and ideas, which means that we can all write uniquely, differently and it will still appeal to people.

  101. Fear of ridicule or unacceptance makes one shy away from doing something. We need to understand that everyone has different thoughts on each subject and till you have all points of view, the knowledge of that subject is incomplete. Just go out there and put forth your view. If someone corrects you, accept that correction and move forward. That’s how you learn. That’s how we all learn.

  102. I don’t know why people are afraid of a little competition. I really believe that in life you win some and you lose some. But what is important that you tired. You cannot expect whatever you write to strike gold, sometimes readers don’t like your article very much but that doesn’t make you a bad writer. When something like this happened all you have to do is pull up your socks and try to write something beautiful and interesting.

  103. I have observed this trend in India specially that everyone goes to internet to lookout for free expert comment and blogs but not many people are giving away their advice to other people. I have started my own blog dealsoye dot com to find and share nice daily deals with visitors.

  104. Thanks for the advice although I must admit that I was a little perturbed at the mention of photography in your list of ‘do we really need another site’ as that’s what I’ll be blogging about! Hopefully mine will be a bit different though and, to be honest, the main goal is to show my work and hopefully show potential clients my abilities. I’ve recently started work on a wordpress site for blogging purposes and will be launching in a few weeks so thanks for the tips, I’ve read a few of your other articles and will be reading the rest!

  105. I just started my second blog yesterday. Usually I mixed two of my biggest interest (horses and marketing) in one blog which was an odd mix. I decided recently to separate this and hopefully that will bring some great success.

  106. I agree that a blog is like a book. And if you go through 2 or 3 books before deciding which author demystifies the subject for you best, then the same happens with blogs. You should do your best at writing what you believe in and then let your audience decide whether they like it or not. You, yourself will be surprised at the number of people who share your opinion.

  107. In my opinion – regardless of the topic. You should always blog from your heart and say what you believe. Don’t try and please all the people all the time!

My blog, which is my views on Life, Love and Relationships to help other was 1yr old a week ago and it regularly gets over 10k visitors a month which is amazing.

  108. I keep telling myself this, “just do it” everytime I feel like quitting blogging because of this tough competition all over the internet. But the spirit of this sentence keeps me going and I feel boosted. This was a wonderful post. Thanks for sharing.

  109. Well, the first reason was in chances of making those millions like John Chow does lol, but after I noticed that wasn’t going to happen, I though why not have an outlet to say what’s on my mind with readers checking it out. If you don’t “just do it”, you’ll end up coming up with reasons why you didn’t.

  110. Blogging is fun and we get to learn a lot things by doing it. So leaving blogging just because of other bloggers with common interests would not be a correct decision. Rather improving ut skills in order to be ahead of them all would work wonders. Hence, I am just going to do it.

  111. I think Blogging is definitely an aquired Art and if you put the time in can really beneficial – especially when you become more popular and start to recieve more feedback

  112. No matter in which field of work you belong to, you need to have confidence in your abilities. You should have confidence in yourself and by that I don’t mean just in the work areas but also in your personal life. You cannot give up even before trying. When you indulge in such kind of behavior, you get into a habit of giving up and that wont help you get anywhere in life. Have confidence in yourself and you can perform miracles.

  113. This is what needed from every Blogger’s point of view when thinking about other blogs exploring the information about same kind of topics. We should not take it granted as a competition rather we should think like we are not alone and we need to be better. the correlation between books and blogs is really helpful, Thanks Barbara.

  114. I genuinely started my own blog on my SEO website because I’m passionate about the subject which is my career. As a sideline I get to have people link back to my website but really it’s because I can air my views to other people and create usefull content.

  115. It is important to try something and give it your best before you decide you don’t want to do it anymore. If you quit blogging just because there are too many blogs similar to yours, then you will never know whether you would have made a mark for yourself. I believe the more the competition, the greater is the fun you have while doing a task. Go out there, spread your opinion and have some fun while at it. That’s what blogging is about.

  116. This is actually my very first time i visit here. I found so many interesting things within your blog especially it’s discussion. From the tons of remarks on your posts, I suppose I am not the only one having all the enjoyment here! keep up the good work.

  117. I draw inspiration from this blog. Though there are hundreds of blogs on the topic I want to write on, they aren’t about my expression, they express the thought of their writer. This is what the blog is trying to explain, inspite of the presence of a competitive environment you have to write. Giving up is not the solution. Unless you write how will the readers come to know about your feelings.

  118. A blog is an expression of your thoughts. Your thoughts are your own. They can never be the same as the thoughts of someone else. So the question of similar blogs is invalid. The general topic may be the same but the way your blog is represented is different. Give your thoughts a platform and let your audience decide. Your point of view will not change but with other people’s thoughts on the same topic your knowledge will increase.

  119. Blogging requires constant creativity through that creativity we can give the new shape to the topic which has already written in a totally different & better manner. I really agree with the concept of considering the blogs with books. no matter the number of blogs present on the same topic, one can post whatever they desire without thinking of competition. Good ‘just do it’ post, thanks for sharing.

  120. It is obvious that someone has the same thoughts as you. What differs is how you portray your thoughts in comparison to the other person’s portrayal. And that is where, writing a blog becomes a win-win. You can have many blogs on the same topic and yet have an audience for each of them. Instead of being discouraged by the number of blogs on a similar topic, you must focus on how best you can explain your point of view.

  121. I agree with you absolutely. I have a blog where i write about web related stuff but before i started, i noticed the web was saturated with blogs that gave out web related information and many of these information looked as though they came from one source. So, what i did was to give people my personal experience as it relates with these topics.

It just has a lot to do with being uniquely unique like you posited.

  122. I began blogging as sort of a way to archive music and have a central location for things I liked around the web. Now I have a site dedicated to teaching others how to blog, and even learning PHP to code for WordPress applications (http://wpphp.net).
I’ve read that fear prevents some people from beginning a blog/site, and that they don’t feel like what they have to say isn’t worth anything. If that were to stop people from starting blogs, the internet would be a lonely place.

  123. I really inspire by watching films, through its storyline its easy to produce some unique content. I really agree with the concept of considering the blogs with books. no matter the number of blogs present on the same topic, one can post whatever they desire without thinking of competition. Its all based on concept of a book. Good post, thanks for sharing.

  124. I believe in the philosophy that if it is meant to be it will happen no matter what, no one can stop it and no one can delay it. It applies to all the areas of ones life. If you are meant to write an excellent article then the words will automatically flow from your thoughts to the paper. So just give it a try and you never know you may end up writing some groundbreaking thing.

  125. I just wanted to blog about my passion altough there are thousands of sites like mine. I don’t care. I do what I wanted to do and if it starts making some money it’s even better.

  126. I agree when you say that the blog is like a book. It aptly describes the blogging scene. Also, there is no harm in putting forward your thoughts. Your thoughts are your own and your blog is a way of expressing it. So don’t shy away from expressing your thoughts. Chances are someone is waiting for you to share and will agree with what you have to say.

  127. Your post is really inspiring for me, because honestly, I am a newbie to the blogger scene and I have just started my blog a couple of days ago. I normally get inspire by watching movies from there I get many ideas to write some good blog, thanks a lot for sharing.

  128. We are trying to do it and create our first succesful website. I think it will take lot of time. But blogs are truthfully like a book and needs to be updated on regular basis.

  129. Hey wonderful blog, yes I can say Blogging is like book, for me Blogging is a great and creative job & entertaining activity, but it has got its own negatives as well. Sometimes it could be really hard. But there are hard times in every scene, the only thing is being strong and survive.

  130. Actually my blog’s niche is technology and i’ve got great interest in it as I am an electrical engineering student but i never really thought about starting my own blog. I started thinking about it when a cousin of mine started his own blog so in competition I started my blog and i think it was a really good decision 🙂

  131. Inspiring post for the newbies and i am one of them 🙂
I agree that there is always a room for newbies however it takes some confidence as you said and some persistence to succeed online.

  132. I decided to jump into the deep end and start writing my blog on PC Flight Simulators, despite the fact that there are a large number of similar blogs already out there in cyber space.

I think I chose to start it up simply because, like books, you can have many on the same topic but each is written with a different voice. I believed that my voice was unique enough and that my expressions would be different, if only slightly, to those already out there.

I guess if you want to blog, as long as you’re not doing it for profit, it doesn’t really matter how much ‘competiton’ you have. Some readers might just fall in love with your style and, before you know it, you may have developed quite the following! 😛

  133. Thanks for the tips. It is hard sometimes because like you said there are always so many other blogs out there writing the same thing. It is hard to come up with new things that have not been blogged about before. I guess we just have to come up with our own style of posting about it. Thanks again.

  134. Although many blogs already exist in the personal finance niche, I chose to start another one because I felt that I could provide a unique twist. I feel that personal finance blogs are either too technical for the average person or too simplistic to be helpful. My aim is to provide valuable information on investing, economics and other topics that everyone can understand.

I think everyone should think about what unique value they can bring to their niche and how their blog will be different from the multitude of blogs that are already out there.

  135. We all are the same if we look at ourselves biologically but we all are gifted with a unique thought process. This is what differentiates us from the crowd. People know us by virtue of our views and ideas, which in other words means that we need to express ourselves and reach out to people. There are be people around us to place their views too but that doesn’t mean we have to stop from expressing our views.

  136. I totally agree that there are a lot of blogs about the same thing but the way of writing & quality differs. Each bloggers has an unique writing skills, surely their thoughts will reach their targeted audience. I normally get inspire by watching movies & listening peoples story If I find anything interesting, I simply blog it.

  137. Yes Barbara, I agree with you on the point that its all in our hands. Whether we want to express our view points in front of others is completely a personal decision. We have to decide first whether our ideas will make a difference. If you feel that yes that your ideas and worth sharing and they can bring about a change in the prevailing situation then go for it. But if you feel that what you want to say has already been said then don’t overcrowd the platform, wait for your turn to speak.

  138. I decided to get into blogging because of the very same reasons you already mentioned in that well written article… though I knew there are numerous blogs covering the same topics as my own blog, I felt capable to bring something unique to the table. I still think that, and it worked out quite well I must say.

  139. Rightly has been said in the blog – competition will always be there. We are born in a huge world where everyone is trying to make his presence known. in such a situation you just can’t sit quietly, you too have to do something which gives you recognition. This is what the blog says. Inspite of every one doing the same thing you too have to work to make yourself known.

  140. I think that you must see your competitors as something good because you have the opportunity to become better than they are.Nowadays are many promoting methods to help bloggers growing their sites, so each of us we should use them.

  141. Bloggers out of proportion are writing about iphone as soon the phone launched but there are very few, who are producing quality & interesting content. Having similar blogs and topics is fun sometimes, different people write different matter according to their point of view, so its nice to see that. Good post, thanks for sharing.

  142. You should not pay attention to others. You do what you want to do and if someone is jealous of you – let him be. You do it for yourself – not for others.

  143. Very informative blog! Thanks for sharing this information. I would agree that there are indeed a lot of people whose purpose is to deceive many just for their personal gain. I hope this blog could reach as many readers to share this worldwide.

  144. Hello Barbara,

Books are definitely a great source to learn about a new concept or subject but blogging is an art which need to be mastered only through self-learning and experience. This way you will become a master of blogging.

    Regards,
    Vijay

  145. Hi Barbara,
I have found that you just have to start. The more you write the better you will get at it. (or anything for that matter.) I often blog on things in my area. I was surprised to find that there really was not much content out there regarding my neighborhood, so I kind of started there when I got tired of writing about my profession.

  146. Hello Barbara,

Thanks for your inspiring write, this really inspired me!
I also think that “Just do it!” is a great way to start blogging.
I never thought about how strong the competitors, I have my own parlance, I have my own unique ideas, and my own unique write which are not owned by the competitor’s blog.

Competitors will always be there, but remember we live in a world wide. Just try to be different to your competitors, make something more interesting than your competitors, be confident!

This is what I had been doing, sorry for the long comment, I hope somebody can benefit!

  147. The personality of the author makes the blog for sure. I read blogs on subjects I’m not even that interested in just because the author makes me laugh.

  148. I believe that we all are unique individuals and our views and ideas are also different from others. A lot of us feel the same way but the way we express ourselves is what makes us different. Now as written in the blog, we do need to put our views ahead. If we think that there are hundreds of blogs on that very topic and our blog is not required then we are doing a mistake as all views are of equal value.

  149. Hi Barbara,

Blogging is all about spontaneity and presence of mind. No book can teach how to go about it. You have to learn it all by yourself. This is when you become successful at it.

    Regards,
    Sanjib

  150. I think all said and done, we should be confident about what we are blogging about. It might be repetitive but if you put your thoughts out there with conviction, people will definitely appreciate your blog. There is a chance that you give them more to think about the topic than they already know. So if you feel you have to say something, i guess you should ‘just do it’.

  151. I completely agree with the idea that a blog is like a book. And everyone knows that you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover. So obviously people will read something that you share and then decide whether they want to keep visiting your blog or not. If you do not give the reader any material to read, how would they know whether they want to subscribe to you or not. So don’t be too hard on yourself and give yourself that chance to express your thoughts.

  152. I like the title of your post very much because it is motivating and pushes the person or the blogger forward who is reading it and get that boost to carry on with his blogging. I also like such motivational posts that benefit the blogger especially to continue blogging in any conditions.

  153. You draw a very interesting parallel between the book and the blog. And this is true. There are no two identical books on the subject as well as there’s no two identical blogs, because each person is unique and has own opinion on everything. Even if you look closer to blogs in highly competitive niches, you can see that every blogger will have his own thoughts on the same question.
    Thanks for inspiring article!
    Best regards,
    Valery

  154. You make make blogging sound easy. However i still think that it is very hard to start one’s blog and have things to say in it

  155. Nice article. You have really hit the nail on the head. The truth is just keep writing qualit articles. It does not matter if others are writing the same thing too.

Heck, all the major news network dish out the same stories everyday (with many of the stories from the same source,AP)

  156. I think, it’s important to write as much as you can. And than try to get feedback so you can improve your writing. A blog is a very good way to get feedback via the comments. Of course, you should write on your blog for your readers, but it doesn’t hurt if you learn new things and get better in writing from post to post.

  157. Great article Barbara! Blogs are like books! As a matter of fact, I would like to believe that blogs have made it much simpler for authors. It’s all integrated now, no need for a printing press and no need for a press conference. The blogs have it all. A comment section is provided and you can be creative in your design with just a few lines of scripts. Good job Barbara! Keep blogging!

  158. Great post Barbara, very important lesson you teach us today. I wanted to thank you for this excellent read!! I definitely loved every little bit of it. This is the perfect blog for anyone who wants to know about this topic. You know so much its almost hard to argue with you to subscribed you.
Hope you will be fine, and can you tell us why you’re not blogging.

    Thanks!
    Ivy

  159. Hi Barbara, Thanks for sharing this post. I am amazed at all the reactions you’ve got to this one. And having read them all, I believe they could turn any person, who has given up hope that his blog will be successful, right back into blogging.

  160. I totally agree that blogs are like books. We get to read information, fiction or other ideas from people whom we may not meet in real life. What’s your favorite topic to read from blogs by the way?

    -Brian

  161. This is the perfect tagline to on and yes I am just going to do it without any hesitation or difficulty. Blogging is an art which not all can possess, but the one who does would never feel like giving it up because it has a wide scope and is a never ending business so I am going to write unconditionally.

  162. Hi Barbara, Quite a lot of reactions there. I think yours is a well written post and no doubt the comments are all well thought of. Looking forward to reading more posts from your end. Thanks for sharing this with us.

  163. I learned a lot of this post. I am not a blogger but I love reading blog specially if the post is very informative and interesting. Thanks for sharing this Barbara and I really appreciate it

  164. There are blogs similar to my blog, there are blogs better than my blog, but there is only my blog exactly like mine. That is what gives me an edge. Internet cant be predicted. You see a blog getting 5k traffic a day and second day it gets hit by Google panda and traffic comes down to 1000. That uncertainty gives me the belief hat there is always a chance for me to grow. It doesn matter if i am not getting 10k traffic, but i can be sure that whatever 1-2k i am getting they are quality traffic and my committed readers..

  165. As a business owner, my reasons for blogging are central to the marketing plan for my business. Basically, I blog for two reasons.

First, blogging is a sound as a long-term strategy to begin conversations with would-be clients, rekindle relationships with existing clients and remind everyone that we’re still around and that we’re still doing useful stuff.

The second reason is purely SEO driven. Obviously, we want backlinks and we want to rank for a number of keywords relevant to the services we provide.

What’s especially heartening about the two ‘reasons to blog’ though is that they’re complimentary. While we’re cravenly pursuing link love, we’re also starting and stoking long term relationships with clients and other bloggers that are universally beneficial.

  166. Thanks Barbara for this topic. The reason why I jumped into the blogging pools, was to share my thoughts on the topic of dating and how to find love online. I provide a unique prospective on the topic since I own and operate a major site.

  167. I really enjoy reading blogs specially the blog is very informative that can get my attention. I have encountered some of the blog are not really good so I was disappoint why I am wasting my time visit there blogs. Thanks for sharing this Barbara and I am so glad that I visit your page. looking forward for your next post.

  168. Thanks for sharing this topic Barbara. When I was started to blog what I did is to write one to two articles per week and it is very important that your blog post is very unique and interesting that can attract and get the attentions of visitors.

  169. Thank you very much for writing this article, well said that that there could be lots of articles on the same topics but one should not discouraged by the others blog/article.way of writing, representation, and explanation of a topic make a big impact on the visitors

  170. Great Article. You are correct ,blogging is like reading different book. It is not a 1 size fits all. Some people are going to respond to different blogs and different content differently. I remember when i began blogging i was very intimidated. There are bloggers both younger and older who are lot of gifted them me when it comes to capturing the audience. but over time you begin to realize to just stay true to who you are and all will work out for the best.

  171. Blog is a personal journal and were you can get information and I agree that it is important to have a very informative post. I really like your post Barbara and it can help us a lot especially those people who are beginners in blogging.

  172. When I was in High school reading books is my hobby and I love reading books. Currently I have my own personal blogs and I wrote something interesting happened in my life. I prefer to read blogs and searching interesting topics that get my attentions and I enjoy reading. Thanks for sharing this Barbara and I am glad that I visit your page.

  173. Yes, there might be lots of blogs that focus on similar topics. However, there is always fresh news and information coming out. And there is always an opportunity to take a unique stance on that information. If you are a person who can think critically and provide a fresh perspective, you have a unique competitive advantage for your blog, even though there might be many others, which on the surface, are similar in topic.

  174. Everybody knows that blogging is a hard work and the fact that actual act of blogging are writing, editing and posting. So it is important that if you are writing articles about your blog is very informative and interesting and as a blogger, I am happy that I help other people who read my blogs that they learned a lot about my blogs.

  175. I have always been passionate about health and fitness and nutrition, and I thought i could apply my passion into some meaningful for myself. just tryin to compete and find my niche 🙂

  176. Nowadays some of the sites have blog and we can get more information about the topic the blog site, and of course the topic same as the niche of the blog. We can learn but it depends on the blog post if the article is really informative.

  177. Valuable advices, I think that the content has to be at the first place, but your advices can help me to make my blogging job more efficient! Thanks for sharing the helpful information!

  178. very true and interesting too.its interesting and helpful for new bloggers. thanks for sharing this information. It really gives us a boost to go on. Everyone has a unique way of blogging .

  179. I decided to blog as a means to convey information that I found relevant to my profession. As I made more posts it became more fun then work, and a steady stream of comments is always great for feedback. One of the key points I focus on is offering unique material.

    Thanks for the Post!

  180. I think its wonderful that you have so many reactions to this post. It just re-affirms that people believe that every individual has different thoughts and each person’s thoughts contribute significantly to each topic. Thanks for sharing Barbara.

  181. You are exactly right. It was my opinion when i started blogging. We should not care about others, but, we should prove , what we can do in our field.
    You are 100% right.

  182. Hi Barb,
Blogging can be like music – lots of different voices, one is not necessarily better than the other, just different. I enjoy the differing views on the same subject, don’t you? Giving your writing a voice is what it is all about to me.

  183. I am agree with this article ..Excellent article…I appreciated the way that your article was organized into these points and I also found your writing style easy to read. Thank you for your insight… I’m looking forward to reading more of your articles…

    packers and movers bangalore

  184. I am agree with matt that many people are all talking (or writing) about the same thing does not make any individual voice any less relevant.

  185. I started blogging to vent to someone online anonymouslly….but then Ibstarted getting nervois that someone ia reading this and they know me. So I gave that up and went back to writing in my journal. No matter what a pen in your hand feels nothing kike a keyboard and it is that much more personal.

  186. Honestly, I started just for fun. After a while I decided to try a more “business-like” approach and started some projects to make money. Now I get decent cash out of some of my blogs, but having fun is still a huge factor in my daily blogging routine.

  187. As a fiction writer who pays the bills largely by blogging, I’d be hesitant to compare writing a blog to writing a book, but that just might be me, I know the process is different for everyone. A book is carefully constructed, it’s almost always best to plan your story before you begin writing. Blogs can’t be planned, really, as they’re organic–or at least they should be. They respond to the readership, they respond to a changing world, and a changing author. That’s not to say books can’t evolve organically over the course of writing–as a rule, they always do–but blogs are open ended. There is no finish line.

  188. Thanks for sharing this wonderful post Barbara. I took time to read each of the comments. Your post seems to resonate with a lot of people. Looking forward to some more of your posts.

  189. I agree that there are tons of blogs out there about everything. But I would say that 50% of them don’t have great content…My blog is about dance – Specifically on learning how to dance online and I am trying to do it in a much better way than my competition. They key is to write great content and not take shortcuts!

  190. Hi Barbara,

Lucky I am those who look at other bloggers with similar topics as motivation. That make my day better. 🙂

I mainly share my viewpoint and personal experience about the topics. It might not mean much to some, but to me, I think there are people out there who might be experiencing the same situation as me and looking for someone to resonate to.

Even my post can relief a person in the world, I am happy about that. 🙂

    Cheers…

  191. I think this is a great point and this is why there are a lot of content curation sites and blogs out there – people want to share good articles and information and then allow themselves and others to comment on it and start debates!

  192. Blogs are basically unique. Not only do you get the content, but you also get the blogger’s ‘voice’. It’s almost like a journal or diary. Or at least that’s what blogs were supposed to be. But like, everything they have become too commercial.

The smaller blogs with more of the author’s voice in them are still the best, for me at least.

  193. I think that original content is really really important- it generates far more organic traffic, particularly when your site has no others to compete against. It’s fine to have competing bloggers specialising in the same theme, but it’s the diversity of keyword combinations that seperate us- ie one site shows up to Blogging for traffic and the other shows up for traffic for blogging.

  194. I am sure there are many other blogs like that of me.however i love writing what i like and posting my thoughts and opinions.

  195. Hi Shalu,
I agree to you that if a unique personality of yourself is added to blogging then it would make it much interesting and helpful. But many a times we’ll find that others are sharing the same information that we are writing. For some this seems as a competition and to some its a motivation to be better than the others. Also some may feel discouraged but truly if you can attach your own identity to it it will still seem different though it is same.

  196. Thanks Barbara for this topic. The reason why I jumped into the blogging pools, was to share my thoughts. It might not mean much to some, but to me, I think there are people out there who might be experiencing the same situation as me and looking for someone to resonate to.

  197. Hi Barbara, Great post I must say. I do think that people should express their opinions without any fear of ridicule. You have quite a response to this post. I’m glad that a lot of people agree with you. Thanks for sharing this with us. Looking forward to more posts from you.

  198. You are right.. blogs are like books.
I also recently started a blog on technical help, but i am not able to post regular. Your post is really inspiring for me as i am a newbie to the blogger scene.

Yes We can BLOG it 🙂

  199. Hi Barbara, the list of responses to this blog must be overwhelming. I think your post does resonate with a lot of bloggers and readers. Thank you for sharing this with us.

  200. I think this is a great point and this is why there are a lot of content curation sites and blogs out there – people want to share good articles and information and then allow themselves and others to comment on it and start debates!

  201. You are right Barbara, blogging is like a book, all you need is to add your voice and personality to your blog to make it unique from others.
    Thanks for this inspirational post.

  202. Sure, you can do/blog it – the much more important issue that it is essential to keep up the blogging; not only 2 weeks or 2 month or 6 month, no: 6 – 7 years, than it wil work out – but most people does not have enough motivation to keep up even a simple blog for a longer period of time because there are so many other things to do which will distract you from daily-caring about your project.

  203. I have just started blogging and it always disturbs me when I see lots of quality content already on the internet.
But again, I have something in my mind that I feel, will definitely succeed in getting a good readership. I keep researching on the subject and it helps me think deeper about it and create something that is still not there, that might definitely get me a lot of readers as soon as this content starts appearing in search.

  204. This is actually my very first time i visit here. I found so many interesting things within your blog. Thanks for sharing this useful information.

  205. Blogging like any other field have developed into a high-competition race, and the only way to survive is by being original. Let’s face it every blog has an inevitable (and unintentional) resemblance to some other blogs posted by some other author, but the one thing that makes them different is the style the author uses to captivate his viewers. The only way to survive and succeed in this race is by staying original and by using captivating style in every blog.

  206. It’s always a little discouraging to see lots of quality content about the same topic I am writing on, but you’re right: You should write your text and by any chance some persons like your style of writing and will read your text. The comparision with books is good.

  207. I think the blogs that are aimless are more at risk of dying than those who have a plan and a purpose. I recently refocused my efforts on one of my blogs and I’m seeing the results which is motivating me even more. I’ve developed a system and a plan so it’s not so aimless. I find that planning is a good indicator of whether a blog will make it or not.

  208. We started our blog (about food/recipes) to share our tips/ideas/recipes in our own way. Sure, there are lots of food blogs around, but we really felt we could add our own voice to the party. We’re so glad we did! We’ve been at it for 3 years and have been able to grow our blog into a career.

  209. I started a blog because in my line of work, a lot of the concepts I’m taught are still quite complicated even if I’ve been at them for a long, long time.

I’ve been told the sometimes, the best way to learn a lesson is to teach it yourself. I hope by blogging about social media marketing, I’ll be able to understand it better.

  210. The most important thing about blogging is that the content published should be unique and it should attach some identity of yourself as a blogger. There are many bloggers sharing the same article as we do but we should not perceive this as a competion and rather look at it as a motivation as this article rightly explains. Also the readers should be able to contact the blogger so that a relationship is developed and the readers will get a sense of belonging.

  211. I got into blogging by accident more or less. A friend of mine asked me if I coul help her out and write something for her blog, because she was to busy to keep posting. I liked it and we started taking turns blogging, and that was that. 🙂

  212. Thanks for sharing this article because this article has given me some vital insights as I am new to the blogging world.I have realized one thing that potraying your own identity as a blogger will definitely help to attract more readers. Also expressing your opinion if different from other bloggers can also help target the audience which support your ideas and viewpoints.

  213. The most important thing for a blogger is the ability of him to establish his own identity. There are thousands of stuff online and the topic also may be the same which the blogger intends to share but if he could still write it differently and express his own view points then the readers might find the article interesting and this would definitely help to attract more readers.

  214. I completely agree, if you wanna start blogging, “my topics already been done” is no excuse. Everyone has something unique to write, even if the topic is books, movies, marketing etc.

  215. Great post, I understand what you’re saying about being too afraid to start writing in a sea of other bloggers. The truth is that everyone is different/unique, everyone adds their own special touch to each subject, and no two blogs are the same!

  216. I love the comparison with books, Barbara, I also like to think like that when connecting with other bloggers, they’re not my competition, they just write on the same subject, like two authors writing in a similar non-fiction niche.

  217. Blogging has many benefits and if utilized properly can be quite helpful.Uniqueness is something required from your post by adding an impression of yourself as a blogger. Also is important to deliver some high quality content because this will make a fantastic first impression and this really matters. It often discourages me when I see the same content but i always try to motivate myself and try to be better than others.

  218. Very informative post and this will give encourage to people who want to write but hesitate due to a lot of competitions of blog but it depend upon your writing skill and how u satisfy Your audience

  219. I think that, if you want to have an interesting blog, you will need to travel a lot, then you will have the very good ideas about your future posts. Just my opinion.

  221. as you said, to pick up the keyboard and start blogging takes courage and confidence, but it will feel really good. and when you receive your first positive feedback, that’s when you’ll feel even better!!

  222. I think when it comes to blogging patience is the key. Many people expect results instantly and when they don’t arrive they lose the drive to continue blogging. You may find as your blog builds and expands the chance of SEO results improves and the chance of your articles being found improves as well.

  223. I don’t know that there are many blogs similar to mine, since I’ve always made this up as I go along — and the blogging pool was a lot smaller when I started, WAY back in 2004. I enjoy what I am doing and that’s what counts. If others want to visit, that’s wonderful.

  224. I recently started a blog for the new company I work for but it’s very related to the life of the company so I can’t see it becoming massively popular outside of our client base and a few staff friends… And yet it might interest a few people!
On the other hand I run a design related blog since 2008 (http://www.hautstyle.co.uk) and although it’s quite popular with good traffic I feel this isn’t as relevant considering the enormous quantity of designers running a design blog all over the planet…

  225. I do agree with you and i must say that’s very interesting article. Because we all have different way of thinking, there’s every time place for better. Most of the people fail once the start blogging by copying other bloggers.

    Regards

  226. Yes, I do believe that most people are “scared” of what other people think. Once we get out of that mindset we will be alright. Even the most boring person can have interesting and knowledgable things they do!

    Angel

  227. Blogging is interesting only if there are other who are getting engaged in reading your content. Engaging people needs lots of good work which is only possible when you are very clear about the subject and committed about writing.

  228. Oh yes, many times I decided to not to write when the topic already becomes a hot topic among bloggers. But you are right just because we write the same topic doesn’t mean that we gonna write the same thing. Everyone look at a different angel when looking at certain thing, so chances are we going to see it in a different way and blog a different story. Yup, just do it….

  229. Awesome post. I know there are tons of blogs out there similar to both of mine, but I still do it because I have a different writing style and I offer different information than others. I realize I can’t please everyone, but those who read my blogs keep coming back for more!

  230. As long as you write unique content you have a chance of getting a lot of subscribers in just about any niche. The content must be of decent quality ofcourse. We should also not forget that having fun while blogging is also very important. If you have no love for what you’re doing, the end result will mostly be poor.

  231. “Starting a blog isn’t much different than writing a book” i liked its.
Someone write blog very excitement for reader, that they always spent all their day only to reading blogs 😀 like me 😀

Check out bien bao giao thong’s awesome post.nha thep

  232. I totally agree with what you said. Anyone can blog. To me, if a person started an blog he should be first passionate about to write whatever it takes and update it almost every 2 days. Competition proves that the niche is on demand and I can find a way to be better than the best.

  233. as you said, to pick up the keyboard and start blogging takes courage and confidence, but it will feel really good. and when you receive your first positive feedback, that’s when you’ll feel even better!!

  234. I think the hardest part of getting started is to keep writing every day. At first it seems that nobody ever reads anything you write, so why bother talking to yourself? Later you will be surprised how many people were listening, you just need to keep up the consistency of posting as often as you can and soon you will start to develop a following. So just hang in there at first.

  235. I started my initial journal concerning three years agone. Write initial articles was exhausting, as a result of I actually have no audience. In month or 2 I began to be slightly common and that i have slightly community around my journal. currently it’s not thus sensible, however i’m still writing to the current journal and still get positive reactions.
Now i’m beginning another one and that i believe, i’ll achieve success, I simply ought to write regulary quality articles.
I want each beginning author heap of patience, as a result of this can be what we actually want

  236. I have to say when I first starting blogging I looked at other blogs like mine and was slightly put off. I had no experience but great knowledge. I took my time and blogged about what I was good at. After 4 years my blog is well established and all the hours put in were worth it.

  237. Its true we may find different blogs addressing the same subject as you chose, but when you share your own knowledge and experiences it will always be unique and informative for you audience so never worry and share things as you like through blogging and comments

  238. We just started a blog for our CPA firm, and this article is quite encouraging and inspiring. It is true that it can seem like competition for readership is overwhelming and might make you want to quit before you start, but I do agree that there is an audience out there for most bloggers. It’s just a matter of keeping at it and building it up over time. Thanks and this will keep us motivated to keep our blogging schedule up, to give our readers the best content we can.

  239. Thanks for sharing such an interesting post and it was quite useful to me.I think the uniqueness and revealing your identity as a blogger are two very important points that should be followed to be successful in the blogging world because as this article explains rightly there are many blogs out there which share the same content as yours.

  240. Hi Colin,
I agree with you that it is very important to be passionate about your work otherwise you would feel it quite boring.Uniqueness is required for your content but still i would say that your impression as a blogger is more important because there are many people sharing the same content.Humor is another element which would make your post more important if it suits your particular niche.

  241. really interesting post barbera,

a true and passionate blogger will find a way around to attract users and search engine bots by writing unique and interesting content he doesn’t stop by the saturated matter or stiff competition.

  242. Barbara, I like your post, and the idea of Just Do It – reminds me of a book, “Go For It!” which I liked, and this idea of injecting your personality into your blog posts, well that’s something we should all take to heart.

  243. Somehow it hard to write a blog at first. But as time goes by, your experience will cover your weakness in writing and you will find your own uniqueness. I just believe in the process. Just always try to learn while doing it.

  244. Each blog will appeal a different set of audience.Hence it is necessary to decide before hand only which audience that you want to attract.I agree that there is lot of competition in the blogging world but that should seem as a motivation factor as this blog rightly explains. Thanks for sharing this post and it was quite interesting reading it

  245. I think the blog is like a public transit bus. Today I will go to sbuah City A, majors take a city bus A bus name aaa. Tomorrow they go to town A bus is sometimes different is aab. To be able to offer City B, we take the bus bbb, or bba, or bbc. As with blogs, like blogging about A, we open the blog A has Mr.aaa, Mr.aab, Mr aac, like blogging about this blog’s open B has Mr bbb, bbc Mr, or Mr bbd, and so on

  246. I think it is important to find your style of writing and stick to it.There are many same blog post on the web and this should be seen as a motivation. If we can impress our audience with our style of writing then no matter if there are thousands of same post but still the audience will find your post interesting.

  247. I have never seen the other blogs as a competition because i have passion for my work and my main motive is that my blog post appeals to my users. Also it should be useful to them.I also insert some humor element in my post because of which they don’t get bored.

  248. I’ve blogged on a personal blog for years but stopped about 3 or 4 years ago. Of course it kept itching so I decided to start blogging again about everything I like and love. Of course there are many other blogs about those kinds of things but I like to think I can inspire my readers with the way I see the things.

  249. There are too many articles in the same topic because most of the bloggers copy and paste the articles. But i found this articlw a little bit different and innovative. good going keep it up

  250. I started blogging because it was a fun way to share my thoughts with the world out there and also there is some money in it for the serious types.

  251. I came to the same realization that very very few subjects have absolutely new content coming out. That’s why instead of becoming just another source of the same information I want to put a site together that compiles all the info that is already out there. It is a huge job but I think is very necessary.

  252. This is really inspiring, more so to newbies to blogging like myself. I must say I agree that we should never look at anyone blogging in the same niche as we are as competition but rather as a possible partner for future collaboration. I will definitely be stopping by your blog often just to get some inspiration in those moments of “writers block” that I know will come sooner or later.

    Thanks

  253. Honestly for fun a few years ago. I like to write about my thoughts and ideas then help others. I think those are the blogs that succeed. Most business blogs are dry and pointless other than trying to optimize their site with content. Too bad the content is bad!

  254. Nice post. If you want success in blogging then patience is the key. Never take your competitors in negative sense. Take them as a motivator and you will surely succeed.

  255. This is a great post, reminds all the bloggers to choose a unique blog topic and not just post a any blog that already exist with a hundreds of revision. A lot of blogs nowadays, that has almost the same content, except that some are just “spinned” in order to look unique. That gives the reader a bulk of options but somehow would also make them confuse.

  256. You are absolutely right blogs are like books. We are living in digital era and blogs are like books therefore blogs are really awesome way to express your experience, knowledge and tips. You are right that just do it, in my personal experience blogging is one of the most effective source to express about your business or any brand, service or product. But there is more need to share easy and high quality content.

  257. Blogging is an uphill climb to be sure, but from my experience, SEO and backlinking creates a community where you can only benefit each other through guest blogging. Of course, there are those who wish to charge money, but most are happy to make a new friend in the blogging world.

  258. If we all say that the niches are saturated, then we will find that nobody is doing what should be done. Competition makes everything go perfect.
If we don;t do it then whom do we expect to do it?
    Thanks for the great post.

  259. Initally I wasn’t worried about the competition and just concentrated on what I have to say. Now that I am feeling the heat of the competition, I am under pressure to perform better or atleast be different than the crowd. Well, this does provide some sort of motivation to perform better too.

  260. I believe that building relationship with other bloggers are the best ways to get noticed by others quickly. We can comment on their blog post and carry on the conversation. This will help us to get some quality back links. Also Guest posting is another great way.

  261. I started blogging because I realized that even though tons of other people write about similar topics, I need to let my experience speak for itself. A blog is a way to do that.

  262. I truly agree with you Dave that most of the people are happy to make friends rather than charge money for guest blogging. This will indirectly benefit us only because it will help us to get back links. Also commenting on other blog post can help us to get a reciprocal back link.

  263. I soo agree with this. When I first launched my first blog, I was so scared cos everybody else was doing something about celebrity news and such, that I almost quit. I have a new blog now, and I don’t really care what everyone lse is doing. I’m happy to be me.

  264. Blogging is such a wonderful communication tool.Whether for business, or as some kind of confessional, it can bring you in touch with people from all over the world, that you would never have otherwise met.

  265. Blogging is such a personal thing — often hard to put into words why people do it when there is such competition (and, let’s face it, it’s such hard work!). I love the analogy with books — that’s a nice one and one that should make new bloggers feel better about getting started in a world full of blogs!

  266. I totally agree with this. I find blogging similar to music. For most of us our musical preferences change over time. Just take a look at pop music over the past 40 years. We as people will always continue to evolve, so do our preferences. So the next new blog might just be that one that matches our interest and therefor will become successful and the next big thing. This should only motivate people even more.

    Best,
    Martin.

  267. Good article. I think each person also has their own take on things and therefore, we get more out of a subject by reading different points of view. I have read very similar articles on different blogs, and got something different out of each article. I like the design of your site here. Very cool and very unique.

  268. Blogging is a great way to connect with people and it helps us to share our thoughts with our fellow readers. It also helps us to build relationship with our fellow bloggers and thereby help to promote ourselves. It is important that we include some video pertaining to the blog post to make the article interesting otherwise the readers will get bored.

  269. Nice articl. In fact,The blogging community is a large community, but much more personal than you think. You share something in common with people around the world, which is pretty amazing. They are affordable: You can create a completely free blog if you want.

    Great
    Robert

  270. Blogging has been my greatest passion and i have never felt bored of it or discouraged even though i have to face a big competition. The golden rule to achieve success while blogging is to imprint your own personality to it and include some humor element if possible.

  271. Of course bloggers often write about the same material. It is the personality of the blogger that puts their own little character into their writing that makes their particular audience like them more.

  272. I have recently decided that i will include tutorial videos on my blog post because mere text may be little boring.I also make it a point to include some humorous elements in my post which will make it more interesting. Thanks for sharing this post.

  273. I know that so many other people have been blogging about making money online but I still wanted to start a blog about it. I had been making money online for a while and wanted a place to share everything that I have either learned or taught myself. It is always best to blog about what you know!

  274. Your post is admittedly inspiring on behalf of me, as a result of honestly, i’m a entrant to the journalger scene and that i have simply started my blog some of days agone. i actually just like the image as well:) I hope I won’t provide up!

  275. The internet is a big big world. So I found other blogs similar to my blog about video production, but I think I have unique information and I think I can summarize things all in one place over time. So I decided to start blogging and helping those who are searching video production and video marketing find what they are looking for.

  276. oh and if people didn’t blog because they found a similar blog, then they would only be a hand full of people with blogs. If all industries thought that way, we would have very few choices in everything today. Blog away. Your thoughts and knowledge is unique.

  277. I do agree with Corinne. You yourself have to find a way to stand out from the crowd. The more you are unique, the more attention you and your blog will get. Work out what makes your blog different and you will have an edge above the competition!

  278. absolutely.. we should always create new even if it is a blog post even if we knew that some similar thing is already present… thumbs up

  279. Blogging is so exciting and in this way i get to learn so many new things that i was not aware about before. It is the best way to earn money online by sharing some ideas about your expertise. Also we can connect with different people and know their view points.

  280. I agree, but note that blogging is not just writing – on the Internet are fantastic blogs almost without words and in their place with fantastic photos.

  281. Biggest problem most of the blogger face starting new is that have only limited amount of time to spend on online endeavors. Blogging can be extremely fun, but most bloggers quit in first few months when they find its not going to help them pay their bills.

  282. I’ve been trough your blog a bit, and enjoyed it. I wonder what made you stop blogging? Your last post is from July 2012.

    1. Hi Bogdan,

I’ve been busy with life, hence the blog has been on the back burner. No fear, though. I’m planning to post a new article real soon. Thank you for noticing. 🙂

  283. I think the biggest question should be “Do YOU want to write some stuff down?” and not if there are already other people who do it.

If you want to open a store in the city, you might think “Oh no there are already to many of them” but you should ask yourself “What do I offer and why is it better?”. If you can answer this then there is no reason to not open a new store. And…

    Same goes for blogging.

    1. Exactly, my blog doesn’t really have too much direction at the moment, but I’m using it as a tool to learn which content works and what doesn’t. It’s not something I would have learnt without starting to write.

  284. Do we really need another travel blog, or food blog, or movie blog, or advice blog, or…. no matter what topic you write about – its taken. It is best to worry about it less and just do it.

  285. I blog about topics that are already covered because many such posts would be missing the key information. I would include the key information in my version so that people won’t miss out anything.

  286. First of all I must mention, I love your design, the look and feel of this blog. Wow! Very creative!
I happened to stumble on this blog through browsing on various different topics and I certainly enjoyed reading your article. Thank you for this very motivating post.
    Regards,
    Kumar

  287. I am always interested in blogging comments. Since i have started several (my first mistake) and find I can’t keep up. My newest plan is one post every 2-3 days. Then a day to backlink.
I just wrote a post on hosting as part of a 5 part series on starting a blog. Sometimes I post about what I need, to help me focus my thinking on the subject.
    Thanks for your thoughts.
O, yes, it was suggested in another article that to be successful i post 5 times a day? Ouch, don’t think I could and still have time for backlinking, socializing, pinging, etc.
    Thanks
    Rob

  288. Hey I love the article. Blogging now a days seems like a daunting task because even cats have blogs. With so many out there and everyone spouting out “Content is king! Content is king!” but is it really? I could have the most well written content around, but if no one ever reads it – is it really king?

  289. I´ve been blogging for almost 3 years and I´ve tried it all. I did low content blogs, spammy blogs, low quality blogs and it was really stupid thing to do…I realized about year ago when i write about things I love, my traffic is increasing and I´m making more monew without trying so hard. So the key to succes is write about things you like and everything else will follow 🙂

  290. My opinion is to write your stuff no mather if is a blog out ther that have the same answer as do you have.
You have all so an opinion and you have all rights to share with others.

  291. I have to agree with you Mike, I remember starting my first blog.

To get it started I just wrote and wrote, making no excuses for failure.

  292. Social networking websites are the best way to get noticed and it can also help us to drive some good traffic to our website. Also it can help us to build our brand name.

  293. I don’t feel discouraged at the huge competition that we have to face while blogging. This is a part and parcel of life. There is competition everywhere and hence we should not concentrate on these aspects but rather think of new techniques to get our blog noticed.

  294. After years of blogging I came to conclusion that creating many social media sites linking to your main web site is the best way to drive traffic. Mind that it’s not for the sake of backlinking but because these social media sites are usually on the first page of Google and most of the time your social media page is one step ahead of your real web site.

  295. Of course, the most important thing to bear in mind is: “Are you a writer?” Not everyone is, but a lot of people think think that they are. Take a look at blogs that only last for two or three posts, and you will see authors that have said all they can. Even if you are writing about Vancouver School Catchment, you must do it every day to make it interesting to you. \if it isn’t, it won’t be interesting to anyone else.

  296. Blogging is the best way to share our thoughts and feelings with others. This is the best way to interact with our audience while delivering some useful content to them.In this way we can build a community around us.

  297. Blogging is about perspective. I don’t blog because I am an authority on the things I write about- I’m not, at least not usually. However, I believe I can approach them with a fresh angle that a small group of readers will appreciate.

  298. Blogging has a huge potential if we perceive it as our hobby.Competition is one aspect that is prevalent everywhere and hence we should not worry about it but rather we should find strategies that will optimize our blog post.

  299. I’m discovering that fear every time I want to start something new on the internet. It can be very intimidating, even when it comes to video like YouTube.

  300. This article is very inspiring. I originally was putting off doing a blog because it had seemed like all the good ideas, topics and themes were taken. But you are right on how blogs are a lot like books. Many different writers and authors write about similar things and the appropriate audience for that author gravitates to specific books. Thanks for the insight! Looks like I might be starting a blog after all!

  301. I also think we gain support when we blog. Thanks to WordPress, a lot of people are able to support each other and provide information to them that we may not otherwise have been able to.

  303. Every job has competition, but that does not mean we do not take up that particular job. We need to face up these situations and come over it. We can take up blogging to an altogether different level and work it out in our own way differently.

  304. This is great. Just the other day I was thinking about a blog topic and stumbled upon someone who wrote their own article on it, but I spinned it a bit. I added my own opinion into the mix and became emotionally invested in the blog post, rather than just being informative. It took a similar blog post in a different direction. This is great to read moving forward making blog posts.

  305. I tried a couple bloggin’ and gave because I didn’t generate much traffic and not ranking high in Google really put me down. Now I learned backlinks is where everything is at. Build your backlinks and have high quality content is key to have a successful blog/website.

  306. Sadly, I am one of those that usually think that don’t have a chance. Right now, I think I have something that differentiates me, so I will keep going. Sometimes we need this kind of reality checks. Thanks.

  307. That’s very true, Barbara. The question “Do we REALLY need another blog about [our topic]” does sometimes creep into my mind, but I quickly reverse my thoughts by thinking of how I can be of help more to my readers by giving them the information that they need through my blog. Their feedback is the one that gives me encouragement and inspires me to continue. Seeing other blogs on top of mine in the search rankings push me to improve and although I consider them as competitors, I try to look up to them as models from which I can draw lessons and tips that would help me enhance my blog.

  308. Hi. I’ve never been good with writing. I do read a lot.
However, I rather build a niche site than write a blog.
It’s kind of difficult to interact with people, and above all a blog has to be updated regularly.
Which brings me to this question: When do you plan to come back blogging ? 🙂

  309. 1st of all i would like to say i love the theme of this blog. very girly..

blogging is a way of communications. its right its like a book.
i noticed also that smart people likes blog/blogging.,but the only problem is how to make a blog popular.

  310. Adding content weekly is what I like to do, not every day (I still work a day job)
And building backlinks myself (try to do 5 per day) but it can take a month for them to show.
    Just sayin’

  311. Actually, I’ve always believed that I can bring new information, specific information that may help clarify the confusion and bring more light on the subject I write. Although I knew that the competition was tough, just not think about it, I just helped my motivation. Thanks for this space!

  312. Remarkable write up and needful for the bloggers. But it can’t be set aside that high quality content is essential to make a blog successful. For Bloggers, they should write about something they love, otherwise they will show no ardor in their writing and if there is no ardor, their writing will undergo. So find a topic you are contented with and write only about that….

  313. Excellent post! I’ve been getting into blogging for my law firm but it’s definitely difficult to get the ball rolling. Also, coming up with new content is a challenge. Thank you for the tips! Much appreciated.

  314. Hi Barbara,
I’m a generalist .. but have inadvertently made my blog different and I’m very lucky people enjoy their visits – in the process I’ve certainly educated myself.

  315. Hello first of all I want to bring under your notice that your blog is very beautiful and awesome. You raised a very good point about blogging I is consider that in mind while blogging thank you so much 🙂

  316. Hi Barbara – what you say is so true… it’s easy to get discouraged. Our blog started off very slowly and got picked up by the BBC after a couple of years which really boosted the exposure – I think the challenge is just to keep trying new things and getting yourself out there – eventually it will pay off for new bloggers!

  317. I think the most significant thing about blogging is the matter you want to share with your audience. By matter I mean the ideas and concepts. Though I have come across a number of blogs which don’t have any relevant thing to share but are just there. I personally don’t consider them blogs.

  318. I started blogging to document my journey from “lifelong eczema” to healed skin. My “eczema” was caused by the topical steroids I had been prescribed to treat it. So in actuality, I do not have eczema, I have red skin syndrome (topical steroid addiction). I thought it was important for me to write about it because there is not a whole lot of research publicized on topical steroid addiction or the withdrawal process and what I write could help someone else going through the same thing.

  319. I started blogging about my life with Social Anxiety as a way of trying to expose myself through text and vlogs, to hopefully ultimately “beat” the disorder.. I’ve just started though so we’ll see how it goes.

  320. I’m all about more blogs, but SEO tactics are getting crazy and allowing anyone to get good rankings. This is just polluting the water for people that are trying to find good, relevant, intelligent information.

  321. I never thought I’d get into blogging. I first started when I began teaching in South Korea. I must admit with other blogs in the same subject it does get difficult at times finding things to write about!

  322. Just do it, okay Nike! Ha Ha just kidding Barbo. I found the blog post inspiring as well as uplifting. A lot of folks seem to get discouraged when posting what is already out there online but these days what hasn’t been posted before? Thanks for the tips on staying focused and keeping motivated. You now have a new fan and blog reader for this great post.

  323. Interesting read..and I do agree. I’m kinda new on this blogging scene and been trying to rank my Fuelfixer site for the past couple of months now. Though it’s different from a personal blog, getting people to notice is still a tedious task indeed!

  324. My greatest problem with bloging is that I’ve made so many blogs, and after few weeks or months I loss interesting for that one and made new one. So I’ve loss quality and conistancy for olds blog and allways want to make new one, which will be more interesting and so. I’ve scattered the attention on many of them and this game is never ending story…

  325. This is a great post, I think well written and marketed blog can attract a lot of readers. The competition is really stiff in the blogging world so you must find a way to get noticed and attract readers to subscribe to your posts.. talking about be, I try and write how I talk. Sometimes it works better than others, but at least it’s being me. Besides, I don’t think I could write any other way..

  326. I started my blog because I wanted a complete site targeting Youths interested in Social Media n Tech. Though there are already too many websites in this domain but I am just trying to focus on those topics which really matters to youth.

  327. I’m getting so addicted to reading blogs …it’s dangerous and takes up a lot of time …you really start to notice the good from the bad and start to expect high quality. Typo’s are the most irritating ..if people can’t be bothered to re-read their work then they shouldn’t be blogging. IMO :o)

  328. I think it is great that you don’t make bloggers feel like they have nothing new to add to the conversation. So often it feels like, what do I have to say? Who would want to listen to me?

But this article really makes it feel like – you have something unique to say! Your voice and perspective makes it unique and important. So, just do it! Blog!

I really like that. This is post is what I needed to read today for sure. (Also – holy cow! What a popular post! So many great comments!! Very impressive.)

  329. I think Blogging is definitely an aquired Art and if you put the time in can really beneficial – especially when you become more popular and start to recieve more feedback

  330. I decided to start blogging originally because I wanted to make money and help people. I quickly learned that does not work. You need to know what you’re talking about and have an underlying business model. I was young and inexperienced when I started though 6 years ago or so 🙂

    1. Starting blog with original & organic ways will become successful blog. The more original content + organic SEO you do. The more juice you will get 🙂

  331. Blogging is an art which takes time. I guess, it is not for the faint hearted as opposed to what people think.

  332. I’m all about more blogs, but SEO tactics are getting crazy and allowing anyone to get good rankings. This is just polluting the water for people that are trying to find good, relevant, intelligent information.

  334. I think Blogging is definitely an aquired Art and if you put the time in can really beneficial – especially when you become more popular and start to recieve more feedback

  335. people think blogging is easy. it’s not easy at all in my opinion. but in order to see if blogging is for you, you just have to start writing and let time help you decide.

  336. What an inspiring post ! Thanks Barbara for giving a basic comprehension of blogging. It encourages me to stay on my way to have a successful blog.

  337. It’s not only ‘Just Do it’, but ‘keep on doing it’. The motivation to continue can be hard to find sometimes, but we only blog because we love it!

  338. Thanks for the tips. It is hard sometimes because like you said there are always so many other blogs out there writing the same thing. so each of us we should use them.

  339. As a new blogger, I find your point of view refreshing and a pleasant change to the usual ‘stuff’ so called ‘guru’s’ wax lyrical about.

    Thanks Barbara.

  340. I agree that blogging can be very therapeutic and allow one to get some things off their chest. Need to be careful is that is the medium you are using to vent so that the post still comes across as credible and also maintains a fair and balanced perspective on the topic.

  341. Ultimately, you need to enjoy what you are doing. I think even if you are blogging, the subjects must really match your interest. In this way,you can translate your thoughts to your audience. This will bring in a group of niche readers that are strongly aligned to your thoughts which eventually turn into loyal readers.

  342. blogging is like venting the inner me onto papers which helps me to feel better (earning is a secondary issue and frankly I dont care if i am earning from my blog or not). it is a place where i am free to express whatever I feel, want, watch or observe. I love my blog.

  343. Blogging has been tough since its been only a few days back since I started, its quite hard to get the kind of viewership you expect, so I guess I will have to put in extra efforts more consistently.

  344. Blogging is not easy. I think the most important thing is we try to give the best to our blog visitors. That’s the point. Yours sincerely from Indonesia.

  345. Barbara, please let us know that you aren’t unwell. We love the posts that have been circulating around our office, but it has obviously been along time since you contributed. We hope that all is OK, and you will be posting soon.

    1. Hi Steve,

Thank you for your concern. I’m doing fine; just spending more time in the real world while taking a blogging hiatus. I’ll be back…. 🙂

      ~Barbara

  346. Blogging for me usually falls into one of two reasons. The first is just wanting to clear up misinformation or convey information that people need to know. The second falls into therapy to help me just get something off my chest

  347. Hi Barbara, thanks for your advice.
I write a topic that is also written by many other bloggers, but I don’t care with the fact.
As you mentioned above, I see the reality as competition and motivation to be better.
We are all have a different writing style and audience. However, I don’t forget the fact I should write something many people like. I try to gain the widest possible audience and then do my best.

  348. I decided to jump in the blogging pool because there are a lot of people that sell safes and security items, but not a lot who explain what each person needs for their home or office, makes sense to give customers all the information they could possibly need!

  349. For me, blogging is not just a job, it is also a hobby. Blogging is my of expressing my ideas on issues or topics that I read. It is my way of sharing my knowledge to others. May it be similar to others or not, our main goal as bloggers is to inform or ask about we know or we want to know. So there is no need to be afraid in posting blogs.

  350. Yes blogging is very much similar to book writing. I started blogging just to pass my time, and now i have started enjoying it. I now feel that blogging has turned on to be my hobby these days.

  351. Thanks for the effort you have taken to show so many options.
The biggest problem I think that most of us face when trying to generate an online presence is choice.
There are so many different approaches that can be taken.

  352. I found your blog via Point Blank SEO and was disappointed to see that there hasn’t been a post here in a while. Is this blog on temporary hiatus?

  353. Thanks for the tips. It is hard sometimes because like you said there are always so many other blogs out there writing the same thing. so each of us we should use them.

  354. The internet is a big big world. So I found other blogs similar to my blog about video production, but I think I have unique information and I think I can summarize things all in one place over time

  355. I would like to thank you for the efforts you have put in writing this blog. I’m hoping the same high-grade web site post from you in the upcoming also. Actually your creative writing abilities has inspired me to get my own blog now. Actually the blogging is spreading its wings rapidly. Your write up is a good example of it 🙂

  356. While there are several people like me, there is only one ME. I believe that I have a unique voice that I can contribute to inspiring others. That is why I took to blogging and that’s why I’m working on my books.
Thank you for asking this question, Barbara. It made me introspect and reaffirm my commitment to writing. ?

  357. I am jump to the blogging pool .But this article really makes it feel like – you have something unique to sayI decided to jump in the blogging pool because there are a lot of people that sell safes and security….thanks for the good article………….

  358. I’m not sure. 🙂

I think I didn’t have a choice. I love writing and just had to put my thoughts and opinions out there. I loved that I didn’t have to go through a publisher but could self-publish.

  359. What a lovely upbeat post. Thanks. For me, blogging is just an extension of my mouth, which tends to spout a fair bit of nonsense.

I see blogging as a way to hone my writing, see what works me up or leaves me cold. I definitely need to focus on editing. I find I publish and then obsess over a post for a day after that, at least. Rewriting and rewriting. And fretting etc. Far better, I get happy beforehand, but I can’t seem to spot the issues before I publish. I’m sure there are still plenty of issues left as well, but there comes a point where I say, enough! Life moves on, so must your blog.

    Still, I love it really.

    I like you blog BTW.

  360. Hello Barbara

Blogging is very good source of earning and very sharp technic to promote your Blog or your Business and yes this is very good source of knowledge because you read other views and give comment and of course this is a vital source to boost traffic.
    Thank You

  361. Seriously, I hesitated to write any blog post initially. I purchased my domain server and hosting server 3 months before, but started writing blog post from the last 5 days.

One thing I would really like to ask from you as you have great experience in blogging.

Should blogger writes those contents which will be liked by users?

Or blogger has to write those contents which he feels and then, leave this to users’ choices.

  362. Blogging is like a diary we can write on different topics in which we have interests, i am so addictive to blogging. I join some forums and bookmarks blogs from which i get a lot of help.

  363. Hi, Barbara

Welcome back from the blogging break. It is a very inspirational post. I love blogging because through blogging I can share my experience and ideas with my readers.

  364. Hi Barbara

I agree with you completely, I know there are thousands of blogs in finance niche, but still I am running my own blog. Because I too believe that just as each book has different perspect of the authors, each blog also has the different views of different authors.

  365. Great post with some solid points. To answer your question, I got into blogging to promote my business and create content in my industry that didn’t exist yet.

Another point I would like to add to your post is that just like books, readers can follow several blogs closely. So even though you might think of another blog as competition, each read can be equally interested/devoted to both blogs. I hope that made sense!

  366. just like what the tittle say JUST DO IT…. its your thought and no one else… just enjoy it and leave everything to google.. 🙂

  367. Seriously, I hesitated to write any blog post initially. I purchased my domain server and hosting server 3 months before, but started writing blog post from the last 5 days.
    Still, I love it really.

  368. Nice article Barbara. I guess the most important thing when considering blogging is that you need to actually be interested in what you’re blogging about. Readers will otherwise immediately notice it and probably not keep reading.
I also feel one of the most important things is to manage to get into a rhythm. I found it much more difficult writing my first blog articles than now. And whenever I get caught up in other things and do not blog for month, I feel I again need some time to get it flowing again.
And as you point out, sometimes there are hundreds of people writing about similar things but your way of writing about it or the aspects you stress most will be different and might appeal more to some readers. Just that makes it worth telling the story with your own words.

  369. Blogging is a passion. Some do it for fame and glory. But if you don’t have the passion in writing you will not last long. Do it for passion and money and glory will just follow through.

  370. Hi, Barbara
this is my first commnet in this blog (thank you very much).
In my case, Blogging is like a diary of my trips, and I have the opportunity of telling the people the best places to travel around Europe by train. I love writing and just had to put my thoughts and opinions out there.

  371. While there’s a lot of competition, you should also note that a good chunk of them would cease to be any competition after six months. And of course, you could well be the one to drop out from blogging as well.

  372. you are right.
some bloggers write similar posts or similar topics. it is difficult to differentitate from the other. but we try to distinguish from the other.

  373. Well, I chose my blog based on what I like. It doesn’t make much money, but I actually enjoy writing in it. That’s really the most important part of having a blog.

  374. a blog and to be honest the writing is a little intimidating. The thought of getting no comments after spending x hours writing is quite depressing, but I guess it’s all about being persistent an pushing yourself to be better. Showing a little personality would probably also help… 🙂

  375. To be honest, at first I started blogging to have a platform/page I could put behind my Domain Adress. But then I really saw what chances blogging gives you compared to a regular homepage. You can build a own social network with it, choose the topic, and write about how you feel about things or shate yoir opinions. I enjoy blogging a lot.

  376. I have to disagree. A crowded market is one to stay away from unless you have a massive promotions budget. Find a niche, or better yet don’t start a blog at all — write for someone else’s.

  377. I had too many blogs on the same topic, but they talked about one thing or other, not all about careers. so I jumped into the industry to make a huge database of resources!

  378. Well I started blogging because I was really into facebook and wrote long and detailed status updates, and with facebook things go like words in the wind. I put the same effort in my blog and now I have something to call my own.

  379. There are tons of blogs like, and I am trying to find a niche, but its hard. I need to sit down and think about it some more. I am not trying to earn money, but my get word out there.

  380. Love the blogs are like books analogy Barbara! This year I resolved to be a lot more regular in my blog posting … its been an exciting 6 months so far 🙂

  381. To be honest The thought of getting no comments after spending x hours writing is quite depressing, but I guess it’s all about being persistent an pushing yourself to be better. Showing a little personality would probably also help

  382. Very good advice in this article! There are always a hundred reasons why you should never bother starting, why you’ll end up a failure. But if you listen to the naysayers and don’t try, you’ll never succeed!

A professor of mine once told me that there are so many books read on Alexander the Great that you wouldn’t be able to read them all in a single lifetime. But even though many of those books were written by some of the greatest historians to ever live, we still see new books about Alexander all the time. There is always more knowledge to add, always a different angle yet to be explored.

  383. First thing First ” Your Blog Design in Cool” .
I agree with you about the blog being a book. Every person has his own point of view and same thing can be explained by different people in a different way. Still even if there are 100s and 1000s of blogs on the same topic, bloggers will continue to evolve and come up with new ideas and new aspirations to build their future in a completely new way. I blog because i love it.:)

  384. This article is really a helpful one. At first I was confused about the topic of the blog, as I am very new in blogging, but then I have made a blog with pictures. I don’t know how other people think about this blog but I like it and that’s enough. I don’t even have a single comment on my blog. But I’m not going to give up. I’ll try to post better than now. Please visit my blog and tell me if it is nice or not and if not give a feedback how to improve it.
Check out my blog. Pictures and Wallpaper.

  385. Such a good piece, Barbara.

This is something I have to tell my clients and students over and over again: You just have to start and see where it takes you.

When I started, I was held back by fears that everything I wanted to say had already been said. In hindsight, I couldn’t have been more wrong, and I’m glad I took the leap anyway.

It’s kind of like dogs (or pets, if you prefer). There are many breeds of dogs. Some people like poodles, while others like schnauzers. There are more than enough for everyone.

Not the world’s best analogy, but it shall do for now 😉

If you’re hesitating, just do it. Just start.

  386. I remember back then when blogging is a rare hobby. However, now, anyone with a computer can make a blog of their own. Whatever the content. I dont know, sometimes i wish to get back to those days where blogs are some kind of art. Great insight BTW. Thanks.

  387. Thanks it was some kind of motivation.Anyway i agree with you that blogs are like books. There are many similar books like of similar blogs.Being known among these similar blogs are the hardest one. Thanks again for sharing this.

  388. really good article..sometimes is really hard to decide what to write about , and some times im not sure if people is gonna be interested…but this gives me a differnt point of view..thank you very much for sharing

  389. I think the moral of the story with this post is that blogs are like books in the sense that there can be many, many winners due to the niche markets that need to served. Good post.

  390. I also use your ethics that never mind about competitors. I just write articles on my niche and love to explore more for my visitors. Blogging is my side habit. Thanks to encourage.

  391. Your site is really helpful. I am scratching on Buddhist blog. if you interested about pls visit my site and have a look

  392. Ive been reading you blog for a few months now, and i just wanted to take a moment to tell you that i really like it, its very interesting and has lots of comments which makes it even better.

  393. i agree with you, blogging is in the real sense the fun of writing.
you have put together all your thoughts in a very good and proper way, and one thing which is just great , is the theme you have used.

    thanks.

  394. Hehe I too Just Did It 🙂 Actually i wanted to keep myself updated about the industry i am passionate about and blogging definitely helps. Now after reading your blog, i want to change my writing style. I just love your writing style ma’am. Point Blank. 🙂

  395. Great post. So true that blogging provides a space for all. Just like people are attracted to different books, the same with blogs. This is inspiring.

  396. The main agenda is to start a blog and maintain it in the best way, market it, generate traffic and convert them eventually. For this, we need to write exceptional content irrespective of the niche we choose and if it is already used by some other blogger

  397. I totally agree with you Barbara.

I have just started a new blog and I consider it like a book. Good to know there are other people who think like me. Cheers.

  398. There are SO many travel blogs out there but we decided to join the amazing travel community because we have a lot to offer on the matter! We’ve been travelling the world for 4 years now on a budget. We travel independently and off the beaten track. We’re young and have given up everything. We hope to be an inspiration for others to do the same.

Cheers! I love your website design 🙂

  399. I think as a newbie you have to hardwork more to stand against your competition and let your readers believe that you are the best for them which will engage their activity in your blog.

  400. Great information.

I strongly agree “blogs are like a book” with many same topics but then it was delivered differently.

So, you don’t have to be scared in sharing your unique thoughts to the world wide web.

  401. First thing First ” Your Blog Design in Cool” .
I agree with you about the blog being a book. Every person has his own point of view and same thing can be explained by different people in a different way.

  402. i am working as an seo and planning to start my own blog and i was wondering how to get more information on a single topic but not from the internet, i think in this situation your point of reading book will be help me Thanks !!

  403. Just do it is the best way to go and do whatever you want in blogging we have to think about quality content about seo on legal bases you know so i like the topic just do it i will wait for the further updates. thanks.

  404. Very good advice in this article! I have had so many set backs but you just got to keep going!!!There are always a hundred reasons why you should never bother starting, why you’ll end up a failure.

  405. My favorite thing about blogs is discovering them years after the author has given up. You’re looking back into the past and seeing how they felt about events that happened years ago. I remember finding one from 1997 🙂 Man, that’s 16 years ago!

  406. If we need to create additional blogs with different topic/niche, then we must assure to ourselves that we can sustain, maintain and take care of all of them. My top goal at blogging is to share my thoughts and be able for my audience to gain fruitful information, if it’s not that necessary to create new blogs then I must keep my writings intact in one place.

  407. Blogs with the same topic are a great motivator to be better. Also you can use then as an inspiration, you can find and publish a lot of stuff that are missed by these blogs…
work hard and your blog will be great!

  408. Hi Barbara.

Hope you enjoyed your break from and nice to see that you are back at it again!

You make blogging look easy with the amount of comments you get! Well done keep up the great work!

  409. I think each can adopt its own rules, but also pay attention to what other people are doing, because you can copy some ideas from other blogs, ok thank you

  410. I started blogging just for the fun of it. Never figured I could earn money or have readers but it’s fun when people start coming.

  411. Very interesting post. I have to say it’s really annoying me at the minute to spend so much time and effort on my blog to make it appealing, responsive and interesting and the vast majority of comments I get are spam. Such a shame, I now try to leave a quick message on other’s blogs just to show my appreciation of the work they put most of the time for free!
    Thanks for you blog 🙂

  412. Blogging is really a passion. I have started it for money. But now, Blogging is everything for me. I used to start my own social network based on blogging.

  413. Great post, Barbara. I agree, writing blogs is like writing books. It’s important to know your audience and write with your audience in mind BUT write what you have a heart to write.

  414. Its an inspirational and motivational blog….any how while start for blogging at first time never think of this thing that the topic of content is matches with anyone just think that which ever content is mentioned in that blog is unique and useful for the reader and go for it.

  415. I started blogging to improve my profile online. It has helped but i found myself enjoying it.

  416. Similar blogs and topics is fun sometimes, different people write different matter under similar topics depending upon their own point of view. A lot of knowledge can be gained from these varied sources writing on the same topic as you…

  417. I enjoy writing a blog so that I can share our adventures and experiences with our readers, some of which are friends and family and others who are customers, all interested in our story.

  418. Hi Barbara.

I enjoyed writing and liked the idea that I could self publish. In the beginning I was experimenting with writing and blogging, and promoting my business as well. It’s the hope of making a difference and the thrill of being able to voice my opinions that got me started on this journey. Blogging requires constant creativity, but checking the news daily always feeds my personal thirst for knowledge and keeps posts current since I can write with a mindfulness of news.

  419. I started blogging for making money online, but now I am very much interested in it. I write posts myself and sometime put them in scheduler so that they are posted automatically at preset time and date. I do so when I go for vacations.

  420. thanks for this awsome post
I agree that blogging is like a book and there are thousands of similar blogs and books all over the place. If you were to put in something unique and a bit of your own personality in it, I am sure one can go the extra mile and make a success of it. As you say, just do it

  421. Very inspirational. I sometimes think of blogs as art, there are countless paintings out there, but each and every one has its own artistic value. Like two paintings of the same topic, a viewer will take some different away from each.

  422. Thank you for inspiration and encouraging new bloggers. Sometimes it is really difficult to keep blogging when result is very small

  423. Against all advice I picked a very populated niche. But upon checking out other people’s sites, I could see about 5 ways that I could gain more of an audience than the competition. It’s been 6 months. First 3 months went to building the site. Last 3 months have been about driving traffic and getting page rank. I show up on page 5 of Google currently. But I figure within the year I will be up to at least page 2. The difference? More personal and comprehensive information, less focused on affiliate links and more focused on giving people what they are really looking for.

  424. Hey Barbara,

Thanks for this awesome post. Long back when I came to know that blogging is a good source of making money online so I started a blog. With the time I started to enjoy my blogging. Every day is a new day in blogging era.

  425. Thank you so much for this post! I read a lot and it’s true. There are hundreds of books writing on the same subject.

I definitely see other blogs as a way of making things better. Personally I want to appeal to a younger generation. I overcame a very rough childhood at a very young age so this is the audience I’m targeting.

  426. It’s good if you have the attitude of just doing it..!! I have not been successful at few things I’ve worked earlier till i start setting up the goals and milestones if you do that you know where you’re going and how much efforts are required..!!! So with the attitude of just doing it you need to concentrate on your goals as well

  427. Finding a purpose for my blog, and making that purpose one to help other people achieve their dreams like I have, makes writing my blog easier and more fulfilling and more fun

  429. Good to see you are still going strong Barbara, I stopped blogging a few years due to lots of changes in my life but still remember this place as one of the places I used to come for some inspiration back then. But just like Alex, am thinking it has been a while since you, I know that is rich coming from me!

  430. Blogging is such a personal thing — often hard to put into words why people do it when there is such competition (and, let’s face it, it’s such hard work!). I love the analogy with books — that’s a nice one and one that should make new bloggers feel better about getting started in a world full of blogs!

  431. Great tips here. Indeed, this is an eye opener.. I like the idea of inverted model
where you write the summary first. In
fact, it makes a lot of sense since most
people skim though the blog post then
decide if they want to read further or hit the back button.
    Recommended!

  432. hi Barbara,

i agree with you that if you want to start a blog this is the right time to do this. Even when i started blog i do not know anything about this now i am running four successful blogs. And yes i also agree with you that every blog has its own audience and you have to write for them and try to attract other audiance also. that is all
