When we start blogging, chances are we’ll find other bloggers who are sharing the same information we want to write about.
Some may see these fellow bloggers as competition, whereas others see the similarity as motivation to be better. To be different.
Sadly, some will be discouraged and not start blogging because they think they don’t have a chance.
Today’s Lesson
Blogs are like books.
We find dozens, if not hundreds of books on the same topic.
Each one appeals to a different audience.
In a lot of cases, the popular books are written by well-known authors or someone who’s well-positioned, such as the daughter of a prominent business man or maybe a politician.

Starting a blog isn’t much different than writing a book.
We can find hundreds of blogs on the same topic. Some more popular than others and like books, some are authored by well known individuals, too.
For the blogger, this can be intimidating. It takes confidence to compete.
But, like books, each blog will appeal to a different audience.
Think about the books and blogs you currently read. A book and/or blog can resonate with desmontar rolex falso one person, but doesn’t for the next, even though the information is basically the same.
It’s not necessarily one author writes better than the next; it’s how it’s presented. How it’s worded. And how the reader and author identify with each other.

I agree that blogging is like a book and there are thousands of similar blogs and books all over the place. If you were to put in something unique and a bit of your own personality in it, I am sure one can go the extra mile and make a success of it. As you say, just do it. I personally decided to do it because I wanted to and showcase myself and put my heart into. Blogging is therapeutic.
I agree that blogging can be therapeutic, but on occasion it just hurts… 🙂
I don’t know that there are many blogs similar to mine, since I’ve always made this up as I go along — and the blogging pool was a lot smaller when I started, WAY back in 2004. I enjoy what I am doing and that’s what counts. If others want to visit, that’s wonderful.
I agree with you Mike, back when I started online there weren’t as many out there as there are today. Though now you are fighting for attention from newbies…If you started out “way back when” by today you should have a good following…At least that is how I look at it. If you believe in what you are writing, no matter what it is, it will show.
While there are several people like me, there is only one ME. I believe that I have a unique voice that I can contribute to inspiring others. That is why I took to blogging and that’s why I’m working on my books.

I think I didn’t have a choice. I love writing and just had to put my thoughts and opinions out there. I loved that I didn’t have to go through a publisher but could self-publish.
I see this blog world as more of an industry or a market, like any other. It’s a competition. Does my content stack up against my competitors? Well, let’s find out! I love the competition, and the lack of barrier’s to entry. Let the best blogger win. It’s fun to put yourself out there and see what kind of response you will get. Unlike books, which are relatively difficult to get published (I worked for Wiley Publishing years ago), any blogger can be published. It’s content that is the key. Not industry relationships or anything corporate like that.
Your post is really inspiring for me, because honestly, I am a newbie to the blogger scene and I have just started my blog a couple of days ago. I really like the picture as well:) I hope I won’t give up!
It’s the hope of making a difference and the thrill of being able to voice my opinions that got me started on this journey.
Your experiences in life, to a large extent, shape the way you look at things and how you put across the same. Even though the huge number of blogs/websites online can be very intimidating, it’s important to remember that nobody has had the exact same experiences as you have had and so you can always add your own special take on things!
As I am still in the early stages of writing, this is one thing I keep reminding myself ! 🙂
Blogging requires constant creativity, but checking the news daily always feeds my personal thirst for knowledge and keeps posts current since I can write with a mindfulness of news. Even if I’m not the number one blogger, I’m exercising my mind and staying fresh.
Barbara, I haven’t seen another blog like mine. That’s because I decided, in January 2010, to begin recording the diary entries I wrote on a nightly basis 50 years ago. I started with those that I wrote as an Iowa farm girl when I was a junior and then a senior in high school. After compiling my freshman year of college diary entries from when I was a student at Park College (now Park University) in Parkville, Missouri, at the present time I am recording entries from the summer of 1962 when I was back in Iowa. On September 2, 1962 I returned to Park for my sophomore year. I will continue this blog through my April 25, 1965 entry, 50 years after I graduated from Park.

I have to agree with Vered. I enjoyed writing and liked the idea that I could self publish. In the beginning I was experimenting with writing and blogging, and promoting my business as well. So it was a combination of personal and professional interest that had me jumping into the blogging pool.
I could say that there are other blogs just like mine, but it would be more accurate to say that mine is like a lot of others, since I started adding grammar posts to my categories over a year ago. Other such blogs were around before mine came along. 🙂
While there’s a lot of competition, you should also note that a good chunk of them would cease to be any competition after six months. And of course, you could well be the one to drop out from blogging as well.

I’m a generalist .. but have inadvertently made my blog different and I’m very lucky people enjoy their visits – in the process I’ve certainly educated myself.
I think I probably have opened the mind-door for others in a variety of ways ..
By chance I realised I could write, I enjoyed educating myself and have learnt much, I’ve learnt that positivity is important – looked on the bright side and seen what ‘opportunity’ might be there …… and the best thing of all is meeting many other wonderful bloggers ..

I started my first blog about 3 years ago. Write first articles was hard, because I have no audience. In month or two I started to be a little popular and I have a little community around my blog. Now it is not so good, but I am still writing to this blog and still get positive reactions.
Now I am starting another one and I believe, I will be successful, I just need to write regulary quality articles.
I wish every starting author lot of patience, because this is what we really need 🙂

Having similar blogs and topics is fun sometimes, different people write different matter under similar topics depending upon their own point of view. A lot of knowledge can be gained from these varied sources writing on the same topic as you.
Blogs are like books – I like that and it is a perspective I have not previously considered. I guess the fact that many people are all talking (or writing) about the same thing does not make any individual voice any less relevant.
Inspirational thoughts, especially for my these days. Blogging is a great and creative hobby/job/business, but it has got its own negatives as well. Sometimes it could be really hard. But there are hard times in every scene, the only thing is being strong and survive.

Well, in my case, I decided to blog to say things in a different way than what others think. Every individual is different in thinking and highlighting his/her thinking. Some are diplomatic and some not so. Some fear to talk the truth, some don’t. I thought, I can bring out a lot of social issues and my country/state/city specific topics and that’s why I started blogging. And I think my personal blog is different than anyone else’
In the case of my other blogs, many of them were started with the intention of making money and hence they may not be totally different than others. But I guess that’s okay as long as I see some monetary results, web visibility and fame.
Sharing what you think of what you like will open doors regardless if your niche is very common. You can get to know your expertise writing of what you know, thus you will bring customers, followers to your website.

Frits: Nice insight. I think that a blogger does not have to know everything, but they need to have some idea/plan of promotion. There are a lot of different ways we can promote or work now-a-days. I do not think that skill alone is really enough anymore. Maybe a lot of skill and a little planning would be enough, but there must be some type of plan.
I agree that doing the best we can will take us much further in the end.
Well said Babs, besides the fact that there are hundreds of blogs on a given a subject, one thing can be certain is that the author’s point of view and expression can differ from others and help them stand out.
The growth of the internet/blogs gives us an amazing ability to express our differences and find other that share the same/peculiar interests and ideas.
There are a few blogs similar to mine, but I originally created my blog to attract new clients. I also created it to answer the same questions that I hear every single day from people about my career. Whenever somebody has a question now, I just refer them to my blog. Makes life much easier.
Since everything is open content in Blogosphere, it’s possible that some people copy and some talk the same. However since the consumption is quite high, I think there’s a space for everyone 🙂
Be it a book or a blog, what matters is the author’s perspective of the subject and his ability to outreach the masses. Being written for a targeted audience or public in general doesn’t override the fact that it’s the content that carries the prime importance and not the intended recipient. As far as writing on the same subject is concerned, every author has a unique way of looking towards the subject thus presenting it as something totally new with the help of his creative intellect.
If you possess the right blogging skills and decide to blog, there is absolutely no one to stop you from doing so. The power to write out of the box posts though many people would write on the same topic as you can be really helpful during blogging.
I am against copying but taking inspiration form someone elses work and writing it from your own point of view is acceptable. Not everyone thinks the same way. You can always write on the same topic without your thoughts being similar to that of the other writer. Blogs give people a platform to write what they think is right and share their point of view with ther people.

I agree that there are a lot of blogs about the same thing and that can be a big confidence battle. I want to be different so my blog is different and you won’t find another like it, at least as far as information is concerned.
I used to blog about blogging and that journey did not last long because blogging about blogging wasn’t my passion.
I would say follow your passion and who cares if someone else is doing it. Do not do what you do for another person, but for yourself because in the end, we only have one life, you know?

We write blogs based on our own thoughts, don’t care about others blogs. Each bloggers has an unique writing skills, surely their thoughts will reach their targeted audience. Copying content from others blogs is strictly prohibited. Don’t steel content from other blogs.
some days ago I’ve read a article about conversation of true blogging. where writer emphasize on conversation that is important to return visitors. he said we have to make conversation with every blog reader..but I answered that blog is not like a social networking site..so do you think conversation really need to make a good blog?
Right on! I just want to add that just like writing a book, the writer writes using a distinct voice. So you maybe writing something that has been written about a lot of times (as humans we share a common experience so we are bound to write about the same things). But your own voice as a writer/blogger will make you stand out.

Yes – It is true. With so many people talking on the same niche and experience fields across so many different platforms and social media channels it is hard to get a message across that they can’t find in someone else’s words. But that is the whole thing – people are creatures of habit. Once they don’t like you it hard convincing them otherwise. And the same applies to your blog – you might be more appealing content wise (look, grammar, quality of information etc.) than some of the others. Not to mention demographically – this has an major influence in your presence and amount of users being exposed to your content.

With growing times, there is barely any topic left that has yet been unexplored. So it is highly improbable for a blogger to find a yet unexplored territory. Because no matter how unique you feel you’re blog content is, there will always be someone out there in the big world, who will have already discussed it. And for all we know, he might’ve even done a damn good job at it. But in no way does this mean that you give up writing a blog. You might not find a unique topic, but there is always a unique way to put up your content. There is also a possibility that your style of writing will be able to generate new audiences- the ones who never usually read blogs from your niche otherwise. This is the one thing that keeps me going. Also, when I have those weak moments where I feel like giving up, I remind myself that I’m here in this niche, because I love doing what I do. It always works.
Just about every topic has been covered on the internet. What makes people read blogs isn’t just for the information, its also for the personality behind it. Everyone has their own writing style and personality, and when combined with information that’s already been covered, creates a whole new perspective.
I’ve started my blog because I needed a place to share my knowledge and experience with others. Although there are many similar blogs on my niche, I consider that each one of us has something unique to share.
Every good blog has something unique to offer. No two blogging styles are unique (unless of course copied). Rather than getting intimidated by the huge number of blogs out there, you should think of ways to be different. It’s not always the better that wins. Many times, it’s the different that bags the trophy.

I´ve decided to come from a different angle, I am going to come from my heart a lot more now, yes business is cold and comes from the head, we are after all, humans with emotions dealing with other humans with emotions and wants and needs, as you yourself said, it´s not how we write but how it’s presented, worded and if people can relate to you that counts.

That’s an interesting take on things. I’ve just started a blog and to be honest the writing is a little intimidating. The thought of getting no comments after spending x hours writing is quite depressing, but I guess it’s all about being persistent an pushing yourself to be better. This is the reason you can search for “[insert topic here] blog” in Google and often find really terrible blogs show up on the first page of results. These bloggers may not be skilled writers, and their presentation may not be great either, but they have marketed themselves so effectively to the search engines that they are given a seat of authority.
Of course, the blogs that actually ENGAGE with readers are well-written and well-presented. But it is an unfortunate truth that many well-written, beautifully-presented blogs never see the light of day because the people searching for them never find them.
So, I would absolutely agree with your points in this post, but would like to piggy-back and say that you should “Just Do It” and start a blog today… but start learning how to market your blog, too! You’re not competing with other blogs based on quality… you are competing based on real estate, i.e., your search engine rankings and how visible you are to the people who are interested in your topic.
The competition in the market is growing rapidly on a large scale. In such a situation, when so many people are writing on similar topics and subjects, we mostly pay more attention towards the content provided by them, whether it is valuable or just some other piece of irrelevant text.
Yeah I agree with Zvi, writing field is getting more and more competitive day by day and sadly some writers are quoting very low price which is affecting the senior writers like us..Anyways here we are talking about the same content, so I would like to say that every one has his/her own perception and way of presenting the things so if you are actually writing at your own, its all yours.
Everyone wants to write about an idea that stands out from the other writers in their specific area, but go to great lengths to make sure it’s different enough. Reading less and writing more is the best way to create unique ideas that are worth sharing.

Every job has competition, but that does not mean we do not take up that particular job. We need to face up these situations and come over it. We can take up blogging to an altogether different level and work it out in our own way differently.

Agree with the just do it part but these days starting a blog is so easy that I think the major effort is in maintaining the blog.
I know a lot of promising blogs that’ve just died because the blogger lost interest or couldn’t keep up the momentum.
The main agenda is to start a blog and maintain it in the best way, market it, generate traffic and convert them eventually. For this, we need to write exceptional content irrespective of the niche we choose and if it is already used by some other blogger.
I agree with you @Victoria. If you want success through a blog, you will need to maintain your blog regularly. Update you posts, adding high quality posts in regular interval. All these are very important to get high quality traffic. I have seen a blogger blog page which were built about 10-12 days ago and it just got PR 3 just because of content. 🙂

You cant give up writing on a topic just because there is already too much written on it. You have to write on it if there is something new that you can offer your readers or some additional information that you can provide on that topic. You can write anything just make sure that is not repetitive or similar as the other blogs.
First, you collect you information from life, books, school, blogs, etc. Then you filter it through your life view and then tell people the information you have collected which will be different from anything ever created.
Second, where there is competition, there are people seeing more and more information on that subject. That is a good thing!

I like what you say that blogging is like a book. Book gives information that we need as just like blogging. furthermore blogging maybe much preferable because you could focus a topic not just like an open book that broad ideas are present.
When I started my first blog, it was to share what I knew. There was definitely that fear that nobody will show up or care, but it was definitely something I’m glad I did.
I begun my first blog three years ago. Write 1starticles was tough, because I have no visits .
Now I am begining another blog and I think, I will be successful, I just need to write regulary good quality articles.
The final decision is yours, whether you want to go ahead with blogging even after having a lot of competition or you want to stay back and compress your ideas and skills within. It is obviously correct to go ahead, make a move and present your views in your own different way.

For me the motivation is that Internet is still in its beginnings with more than half the world waiting to get online. So, I believe there is lot of space for everyone even though your space looks crowded.
Having said that, it is always better if you can find a unique niche for yourself.
Thats true that blogs are like books. Thats why it is so important to just do it and like what they are writing about. I think learning by doing is a great thing. You dont have to be pro to start a blog just have passion for it.
I had started blogging in order to promote and develope my business, but eventually I started liking the art of writing down posts and articles about randomn stuff and some of my favourate topics that helped me generate traffic. Hence, I am just going on with this hobby of mine.
Eventhough the topic might have been discussed previously at other places but if the writer has been able to put his heart and feelings with his post , the readers will surely find a new and fresh side of it.
I won’t think that fellow blogger were competition, I have already made some really inspirational and great friendships during that short period since I have started my blog. I think it only depends on how open-minded you are. It is such a great thing. And I totally agree: just do it!
These are excellent points. It is discouraging to start when there is already such a wealth of information available, but I believe the best bloggers persevere in spite of the odds and go onto to create really sensational blogs for us all to enjoy.
Tips for Anti-Aging
Your right we do need more blogs because different people have different perspectives and some bloggers will go into more detail about a subject than another. Some bloggers might agree on something and others might not so its good read both sides to get a better understanding.
I decided to join blogging because I have a passion for writing and meeting new people. I think blogging is the perfect mixture of these two things. Blogs give me a perfect platform to put forth my views on any and every topic. From the time I have started blogging I have met some really interesting and remarkable person who have helped me grow and make me a better person.
I like the title or I must say the headline of your post and such a start is already motivating me to just do it. I very much agree that I should not be concerned about other bloggers and their blogs and instead work of my own in my best possible way to take it to great heights.

I think that blogging is really kinda strange, because you can use it for many different things like broadcasting informations and useful texts, but also for seo-experiments, for social experiments, for just having an external hard drive … there are so many reasons for blogging … and … there are so many blogs that you can’t read them all. information is kinda decentralized nowadays.
I don’t know why people don’t have faith and confidence in themselves. They are so afraid to take a chance that in the process they have killed whatever ounce of creativity they have in them. People should write on whatever topic they want to and not care about anything else. As a writer they have the ability to write on the same topic without its content being similar.

If William Shakespeare, Sydney Sheldon or J.K. Rowling had doubted themselves and their ability to write then they wouldn’t have written such excellent novels. You need to have faith in yourself. You just have to write whatever that comes to your mind and what interests you. And believe me when I say it will turn out to be a masterpiece.
I guess if the SEO tools are used properly, then a blogger does not have to worry about attracting and generating traffic though many of them write in the same niche. Every niche has sub topics and every sub topic has more sub topics and hence there is a lot of scope.
Barbara, a blogger personality makes all the difference! I think this is one of the messages you underlined in this post. It doesn’t matter if a hundred bloggers talk about the same thing, you can too. The key point being to offer the topic your own twist so that you bring value into this world 😉
We are trying to do it and create our first succesful website. I think it will take lot of time. But blogs are truthfully like a book and needs to be updated on regular basis. Other wise it will be considered and history book.
I started my blog because I wanted a complete site targeting Youths interested in Social Media n Tech. Though there are already too many websites in this domain but I am just trying to focus on those topics which really matters to youth.
In my opinion there are too many articles in the same topic because most of the bloggers copy and paste the articles. We must find a way to keep our privacy and right now
It doesn’t matter if a hundred bloggers talk about the same thing, you can too. I really agree with the concept of considering the blogs with books. no matter the number of blogs present on the same topic, one can post whatever they desire without thinking of competition. Its all based on concept of a book. Nothing goes wrong if only limited people read your blog.

I am going to continue blogging on any conditions, be it having competitors working on the same niche or the content idea being common. We all have our own ways to handle and mould the data and hence, I know I am going to come out with some different and fresh content.
You cant give up writing on a subject just because it has been written about a lot. You have to understand even though many people have written about it you can explain the topic with your own point of view and using your own personal experiences. These are something no other writer can provide the readers. So always try, at least once, before you give up.

I agree that blogging is like a book and there are thousands of similar blogs and books all over the place. If you were to put in something unique and a bit of your own personality in it, I am sure one can go the extra mile and make a success of it.
I began blogging a few years back. When I started I saw quite a few blogs similar to mine and that discouraged me from continuing. I thought these people are really good. Why would someone bother to read what I have to say on the same subject? Some time later, I came back to the blogging scene. My return from self-imposed exile was because I kept reading these blogs and I realised that more often than not, the post would raise a lot of questions in my mind. I thought if I have those questions, surely someone else must be wondering about it too. What I realised was that a topic can be treated from different angles and not all bloggers cover the same topic from the same angle. There is no harm in putting your point of view ahead because to someone out there your point of view makes more sense than probably 10 other blogs on the same topic. It is all about perspective.
Anything done sincere and with full passion always turns out to be great and is well appreciated by others. You must have confidence in your abilities as a writer only then will others take you seriously. Try taking risk every once in a while, try doing something different and out of the box. People always are huge fans of creativity and uniqueness.
Great post and yes, I truly agree with you when you said that blogs are just like books. Blogging is a great venue for expressing ourselves and sharing what we know to people. Everyone has his/her own writing style and ideas, which means that we can all write uniquely, differently and it will still appeal to people.
Fear of ridicule or unacceptance makes one shy away from doing something. We need to understand that everyone has different thoughts on each subject and till you have all points of view, the knowledge of that subject is incomplete. Just go out there and put forth your view. If someone corrects you, accept that correction and move forward. That’s how you learn. That’s how we all learn.
I don’t know why people are afraid of a little competition. I really believe that in life you win some and you lose some. But what is important that you tired. You cannot expect whatever you write to strike gold, sometimes readers don’t like your article very much but that doesn’t make you a bad writer. When something like this happened all you have to do is pull up your socks and try to write something beautiful and interesting.
I have observed this trend in India specially that everyone goes to internet to lookout for free expert comment and blogs but not many people are giving away their advice to other people. I have started my own blog dealsoye dot com to find and share nice daily deals with visitors.

I just started my second blog yesterday. Usually I mixed two of my biggest interest (horses and marketing) in one blog which was an odd mix. I decided recently to separate this and hopefully that will bring some great success.
I agree that a blog is like a book. And if you go through 2 or 3 books before deciding which author demystifies the subject for you best, then the same happens with blogs. You should do your best at writing what you believe in and then let your audience decide whether they like it or not. You, yourself will be surprised at the number of people who share your opinion.

Well, the first reason was in chances of making those millions like John Chow does lol, but after I noticed that wasn’t going to happen, I though why not have an outlet to say what’s on my mind with readers checking it out. If you don’t “just do it”, you’ll end up coming up with reasons why you didn’t.
Blogging is fun and we get to learn a lot things by doing it. So leaving blogging just because of other bloggers with common interests would not be a correct decision. Rather improving ut skills in order to be ahead of them all would work wonders. Hence, I am just going to do it.

I genuinely started my own blog on my SEO website because I’m passionate about the subject which is my career. As a sideline I get to have people link back to my website but really it’s because I can air my views to other people and create usefull content.
It is important to try something and give it your best before you decide you don’t want to do it anymore. If you quit blogging just because there are too many blogs similar to yours, then you will never know whether you would have made a mark for yourself. I draw inspiration from this blog. Though there are hundreds of blogs on the topic I want to write on, they aren’t about my expression, they express the thought of their writer. This is what the blog is trying to explain, inspite of the presence of a competitive environment you have to write. Giving up is not the solution. Unless you write how will the readers come to know about your feelings.
A blog is an expression of your thoughts. Your thoughts are your own. They can never be the same as the thoughts of someone else. So the question of similar blogs is invalid. The general topic may be the same but the way your blog is represented is different. Give your thoughts a platform and let your audience decide. Your point of view will not change but with other people’s thoughts on the same topic your knowledge will increase.

It is obvious that someone has the same thoughts as you. What differs is how you portray your thoughts in comparison to the other person’s portrayal. And that is where, writing a blog becomes a win-win. You can have many blogs on the same topic and yet have an audience for each of them. Instead of being discouraged by the number of blogs on a similar topic, you must focus on how best you can explain your point of view.
I agree with you absolutely. I have a blog where i write about web related stuff but before i started, i noticed the web was saturated with blogs that gave out web related information and many of these information looked as though they came from one source. So, what i did was to give people my personal experience as it relates with these topics.
It just has a lot to do with being uniquely unique like you posited.
I began blogging as sort of a way to archive music and have a central location for things I liked around the web. Now I have a site dedicated to teaching others how to blog, and even learning PHP to code for WordPress applications (http://wpphp.net).

Hey wonderful blog, yes I can say Blogging is like book, for me Blogging is a great and creative job & entertaining activity, but it has got its own negatives as well. Sometimes it could be really hard. But there are hard times in every scene, the only thing is being strong and survive.
Actually my blog’s niche is technology and i’ve got great interest in it as I am an electrical engineering student but i never really thought about starting my own blog. I started thinking about it when a cousin of mine started his own blog so in competition I started my blog and i think it was a really good decision 🙂

I agree that there is always a room for newbies however it takes some confidence as you said and some persistence to succeed online.
I decided to jump into the deep end and start writing my blog on PC Flight Simulators, despite the fact that there are a large number of similar blogs already out there in cyber space.
I think I chose to start it up simply because, like books, you can have many on the same topic but each is written with a different voice. I believed that my voice was unique enough and that my expressions would be different, if only slightly, to those already out there.
I guess if you want to blog, as long as you’re not doing it for profit, it doesn’t really matter how much ‘competiton’ you have. Some readers might just fall in love with your style and, before you know it, you may have developed quite the following! 😛

Although many blogs already exist in the personal finance niche, I chose to start another one because I felt that I could provide a unique twist. I feel that personal finance blogs are either too technical for the average person or too simplistic to be helpful. My aim is to provide valuable information on investing, economics and other topics that everyone can understand.
I think everyone should think about what unique value they can bring to their niche and how their blog will be different from the multitude of blogs that are already out there.
We all are the same if we look at ourselves biologically but we all are gifted with a unique thought process. This is what differentiates us from the crowd. People know us by virtue of our views and ideas, which in other words means that we need to express ourselves and reach out to people. There are be people around us to place their views too but that doesn’t mean we have to stop from expressing our views.

We have to decide first whether our ideas will make a difference. If you feel that yes that your ideas and worth sharing and they can bring about a change in the prevailing situation then go for it. I believe that we all are unique individuals and our views and ideas are also different from others. A lot of us feel the same way but the way we express ourselves is what makes us different. If we think that there are hundreds of blogs on that very topic and our blog is not required then we are doing a mistake as all views are of equal value.

I think all said and done, we should be confident about what we are blogging about. It might be repetitive but if you put your thoughts out there with conviction, people will definitely appreciate your blog. There is a chance that you give them more to think about the topic than they already know. So if you feel you have to say something, i guess you should ‘just do it’.
I completely agree with the idea that a blog is like a book. And everyone knows that you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover. So obviously people will read something that you share and then decide whether they want to keep visiting your blog or not. If you do not give the reader any material to read, how would they know whether they want to subscribe to you or not. So don’t be too hard on yourself and give yourself that chance to express your thoughts.
I like the title of your post very much because it is motivating and pushes the person or the blogger forward who is reading it and get that boost to carry on with his blogging. I also like such motivational posts that benefit the blogger especially to continue blogging in any conditions.
You draw a very interesting parallel between the book and the blog. And this is true. There are no two identical books on the subject as well as there’s no two identical blogs, because each person is unique and has own opinion on everything. Even if you look closer to blogs in highly competitive niches, you can see that every blogger will have his own thoughts on the same question.

I think, it’s important to write as much as you can. And than try to get feedback so you can improve your writing. A blog is a very good way to get feedback via the comments. Of course, you should write on your blog for your readers, but it doesn’t hurt if you learn new things and get better in writing from post to post.

There are blogs similar to my blog, there are blogs better than my blog, but there is only my blog exactly like mine. That is what gives me an edge. Internet cant be predicted. You see a blog getting 5k traffic a day and second day it gets hit by Google panda and traffic comes down to 1000. That uncertainty gives me the belief hat there is always a chance for me to grow. It doesn matter if i am not getting 10k traffic, but i can be sure that whatever 1-2k i am getting they are quality traffic and my committed readers..
As a business owner, my reasons for blogging are central to the marketing plan for my business. Basically, I blog for two reasons.
First, blogging is a sound as a long-term strategy to begin conversations with would-be clients, rekindle relationships with existing clients and remind everyone that we’re still around and that we’re still doing useful stuff.
The second reason is purely SEO driven. Obviously, we want backlinks and we want to rank for a number of keywords relevant to the services we provide.
What’s especially heartening about the two ‘reasons to blog’ though is that they’re complimentary. While we’re cravenly pursuing link love, we’re also starting and stoking long term relationships with clients and other bloggers that are universally beneficial.

Great Article. You are correct ,blogging is like reading different book. It is not a 1 size fits all. Some people are going to respond to different blogs and different content differently. I remember when i began blogging i was very intimidated. There are bloggers both younger and older who are lot of gifted them me when it comes to capturing the audience. but over time you begin to realize to just stay true to who you are and all will work out for the best.

Yes, there might be lots of blogs that focus on similar topics. However, there is always fresh news and information coming out. And there is always an opportunity to take a unique stance on that information. If you are a person who can think critically and provide a fresh perspective, you have a unique competitive advantage for your blog, even though there might be many others, which on the surface, are similar in topic.
Everybody knows that blogging is a hard work and the fact that actual act of blogging are writing, editing and posting. I am agree with matt that many people are all talking (or writing) about the same thing does not make any individual voice any less relevant.
I started blogging to vent to someone online anonymouslly….but then Ibstarted getting nervois that someone ia reading this and they know me. So I gave that up and went back to writing in my journal. No matter what a pen in your hand feels nothing kike a keyboard and it is that much more personal.

Honestly, I started just for fun. After a while I decided to try a more “business-like” approach and started some projects to make money. Now I get decent cash out of some of my blogs, but having fun is still a huge factor in my daily blogging routine.
As a fiction writer who pays the bills largely by blogging, I’d be hesitant to compare writing a blog to writing a book, but that just might be me, I know the process is different for everyone. A book is carefully constructed, it’s almost always best to plan your story before you begin writing. Blogs can’t be planned, really, as they’re organic–or at least they should be. They respond to the readership, they respond to a changing world, and a changing author. That’s not to say books can’t evolve organically over the course of writing–as a rule, they always do–but blogs are open ended. There is no finish line.
I think most of people writing blog as their open diary.

I agree that there are tons of blogs out there about everything. But I would say that 50% of them don’t have great content…My blog is about dance – Specifically on learning how to dance online and I am trying to do it in a much better way than my competition. They key is to write great content and not take shortcuts!

I think this is a great point and this is why there are a lot of content curation sites and blogs out there – people want to share good articles and information and then allow themselves and others to comment on it and start debates!
Blogs are basically unique. Not only do you get the content, but you also get the blogger’s ‘voice’. It’s almost like a journal or diary. Or at least that’s what blogs were supposed to be. But like, everything they have become too commercial.
The smaller blogs with more of the author’s voice in them are still the best, for me at least.
I think that original content is really really important- it generates far more organic traffic, particularly when your site has no others to compete against. It’s fine to have competing bloggers specialising in the same theme, but it’s the diversity of keyword combinations that seperate us- ie one site shows up to Blogging for traffic and the other shows up for traffic for blogging.
I am sure there are many other blogs like that of me.however i love writing what i like and posting my thoughts and opinions.

I agree to you that if a unique personality of yourself is added to blogging then it would make it much interesting and helpful.But many a times we’ll find that others are sharing the same information that we are writing.For some this seems as a competition and to some its a motivation to be better than the others.Also some may feel discouraged but truly if you can attach your own identity to it it will still seem different though it is same.

Sure, you can do/blog it – the much more important issue that it is essential to keep up the blogging; not only 2 weeks or 2 month or 6 month, no: 6 – 7 years, than it wil work out – but most people does not have enough motivation to keep up even a simple blog for a longer period of time because there are so many other things to do which will distract you from daily-caring about your project.
I have just started blogging and it always disturbs me when I see lots of quality content already on the internet.
But again, I have something in my mind that I feel, will definitely succeed in getting a good readership. I keep researching on the subject and it helps me think deeper about it and create something that is still not there, that might definitely get me a lot of readers as soon as this content starts appearing in search.

Blogging like any other field have developed into a high-competition race, and the only way to survive is by being original. Let’s face it every blog has an inevitable (and unintentional) resemblance to some other blogs posted by some other author, but the one thing that makes them different is the style the author uses to captivate his viewers. The only way to survive and succeed in this race is by staying original and by using captivating style in every blog.
It’s always a little discouraging to see lots of quality content about the same topic I am writing on, but you’re right: You should write your text and by any chance some persons like your style of writing and will read your text. The comparision with books is good.
I think the blogs that are aimless are more at risk of dying than those who have a plan and a purpose. I recently refocused my efforts on one of my blogs and I’m seeing the results which is motivating me even more. I’ve developed a system and a plan so it’s not so aimless. I find that planning is a good indicator of whether a blog will make it or not.

We started our blog (about food/recipes) to share our tips/ideas/recipes in our own way. Sure, there are lots of food blogs around, but we really felt we could add our own voice to the party. We’re so glad we did! We’ve been at it for 3 years and have been able to grow our blog into a career.

I started a blog because in my line of work, a lot of the concepts I’m taught are still quite complicated even if I’ve been at them for a long, long time.
I’ve been told the sometimes, the best way to learn a lesson is to teach it yourself. I hope by blogging about social media marketing, I’ll be able to understand it better.

Great post, I understand what you’re saying about being too afraid to start writing in a sea of other bloggers. The truth is that everyone is different/unique, everyone adds their own special touch to each subject, and no two blogs are the same!
I love the comparison with books, Barbara, I also like to think like that when connecting with other bloggers, they’re not my competition, they just write on the same subject, like two authors writing in a similar non-fiction niche.

I think when it comes to blogging patience is the key. Many people expect results instantly and when they don’t arrive they lose the drive to continue blogging. You may find as your blog builds and expands the chance of SEO results improves and the chance of your articles being found improves as well.
I don’t know that there are many blogs similar to mine, since I’ve always made this up as I go along — and the blogging pool was a lot smaller when I started, WAY back in 2004. I enjoy what I am doing and that’s what counts. If others want to visit, that’s wonderful.
I recently started a blog for the new company I work for but it’s very related to the life of the company so I can’t see it becoming massively popular outside of our client base and a few staff friends… And yet it might interest a few people!
On the other hand I run a design related blog since 2008 (http://www.hautstyle.co.uk) and although it’s quite popular with good traffic I feel this isn’t as relevant considering the enormous quantity of designers running a design blog all over the planet…

Blogging is interesting only if there are other who are getting engaged in reading your content. Engaging people needs lots of good work which is only possible when you are very clear about the subject and committed about writing.
Oh yes, many times I decided to not to write when the topic already becomes a hot topic among bloggers. But you are right just because we write the same topic doesn’t mean that we gonna write the same thing. Everyone look at a different angel when looking at certain thing, so chances are we going to see it in a different way and blog a different story. Yup, just do it….

As long as you write unique content you have a chance of getting a lot of subscribers in just about any niche. The content must be of decent quality ofcourse. We should also not forget that having fun while blogging is also very important. If you have no love for what you’re doing, the end result will mostly be poor.

I think the hardest part of getting started is to keep writing every day. At first it seems that nobody ever reads anything you write, so why bother talking to yourself? Later you will be surprised how many people were listening, you just need to keep up the consistency of posting as often as you can and soon you will start to develop a following. So just hang in there at first.
I started my initial journal concerning three years agone. Write initial articles was exhausting, as a result of I actually have no audience. In month or 2 I began to be slightly common and that i have slightly community around my journal. currently it’s not thus sensible, however i’m still writing to the current journal and still get positive reactions.
Now i’m beginning another one and that i believe, i’ll achieve success, I simply ought to write regulary quality articles.

I think the blog is like a public transit bus. Today I will go to sbuah City A, majors take a city bus A bus name aaa. Tomorrow they go to town A bus is sometimes different is aab. To be able to offer City B, we take the bus bbb, or bba, or bbc. I think it is important to find your style of writing and stick to it.There are many same blog post on the web and this should be seen as a motivation.If we can impress our audience with our style of writing then no matter if there are thousands of same post but still the audience will find your post interesting.
I have never seen the other blogs as a competition because i have passion for my work and my main motive is that my blog post appeals to my users.Also it should be useful to them.I also insert some humor element in my post because of which they don’t get bored.

I started blogging because it was a fun way to share my thoughts with the world out there and also there is some money in it for the serious types.
I came to the same realization that very very few subjects have absolutely new content coming out. That’s why instead of becoming just another source of the same information I want to put a site together that compiles all the info that is already out there. It is a huge job but I think is very necessary.
This is really inspiring, more so to newbies to blogging like myself. I must say I agree that we should never look at anyone blogging in the same niche as we are as competition but rather as a possible partner for future collaboration. I will definitely be stopping by your blog often just to get some inspiration in those moments of “writers block” that I know will come sooner or later.

Honestly for fun a few years ago. I like to write about my thoughts and ideas then help others. I think those are the blogs that succeed. Most business blogs are dry and pointless other than trying to optimize their site with content. Too bad the content is bad!

This is a great post, reminds all the bloggers to choose a unique blog topic and not just post a any blog that already exist with a hundreds of revision. A lot of blogs nowadays, that has almost the same content, except that some are just “spinned” in order to look unique. That gives the reader a bulk of options but somehow would also make them confuse.
You are absolutely right blogs are like books. We are living in digital era and blogs are like books therefore blogs are really awesome way to express your experience, knowledge and tips. You are right that just do it, in my personal experience blogging is one of the most effective source to express about your business or any brand, service or product. Initally I wasn’t worried about the competition and just concentrated on what I have to say. Now that I am feeling the heat of the competition, I am under pressure to perform better or atleast be different than the crowd. Well, this does provide some sort of motivation to perform better too.
I believe that building relationship with other bloggers are the best ways to get noticed by others quickly.We can comment on their blog post and carry on the conversation.This will help us to get some quality back links.Also Guest posting is another great way.
I started blogging because I realized that even though tons of other people write about similar topics, I need to let my experience speak for itself. A blog is a way to do that.

I love the analogy with books — that’s a nice one and one that should make new bloggers feel better about getting started in a world full of blogs!
I totally agree with this. I find blogging similar to music. For most of us our musical preferences change over time. Just take a look at pop music over the past 40 years. We as people will always continue to evolve, so do our preferences. So the next new blog might just be that one that matches our interest and therefor will become successful and the next big thing. This should only motivate people even more.

Blogging has been my greatest passion and i have never felt bored of it or discouraged even though i have to face a big competition.The golden rule to achieve success while blogging is to imprint your own personality to it and include some humor element if possible.
Of course bloggers often write about the same material. It is the personality of the blogger that puts their own little character into their writing that makes their particular audience like them more.

I think the biggest question should be “Do YOU want to write some stuff down?” and not if there are already other people who do it.
If you want to open a store in the city, you might think “Oh no there are already to many of them” but you should ask yourself “What do I offer and why is it better?”. If you can answer this then there is no reason to not open a new store. And…
Same goes for blogging.
Exactly, my blog doesn’t really have too much direction at the moment, but I’m using it as a tool to learn which content works and what doesn’t. It’s not something I would have learnt without starting to write.
Do we really need another travel blog, or food blog, or movie blog, or advice blog, or…. no matter what topic you write about – its taken. It is best to worry about it less and just do it.
I blog about topics that are already covered because many such posts would be missing the key information. I would include the key information in my version so that people won’t miss out anything.

I am always interested in blogging comments. Since i have started several (my first mistake) and find I can’t keep up. My newest plan is one post every 2-3 days. Then a day to backlink.
I just wrote a post on hosting as part of a 5 part series on starting a blog. Sometimes I post about what I need, to help me focus my thinking on the subject.

Hey I love the article. Blogging now a days seems like a daunting task because even cats have blogs. With so many out there and everyone spouting out “Content is king! Content is king!” but is it really? I could have the most well written content around, but if no one ever reads it – is it really king?
I´ve been blogging for almost 3 years and I´ve tried it all. I did low content blogs, spammy blogs, low quality blogs and it was really stupid thing to do…I realized about year ago when i write about things I love, my traffic is increasing and I´m making more monew without trying so hard. So the key to succes is write about things you like and everything else will follow 🙂

Social networking websites are the best way to get noticed and it can also help us to drive some good traffic to our website.Also it can help us to build our brand name.
I don’t feel discouraged at the huge competition that we have to face while blogging.This is a part and parcel of life.There is competition everywhere and hence we should not concentrate on these aspects but rather think of new techniques to get our blog noticed.
After years of blogging I came to conclusion that creating many social media sites linking to your main web site is the best way to drive traffic. Mind that it’s not for the sake of backlinking but because these social media sites are usually on the first page of Google and most of the time your social media page is one step ahead of your real web site.
Of course, the most important thing to bear in mind is: “Are you a writer?” Not everyone is, but a lot of people think think that they are. Take a look at blogs that only last for two or three posts, and you will see authors that have said all they can. Even if you are writing about Vancouver School Catchment, you must do it every day to make it interesting to you. \if it isn’t, it won’t be interesting to anyone else.

I think all said and done, we should be confident about what we are blogging about. It might be repetitive but if you put your thoughts out there with conviction, people will definitely appreciate your blog. There is a chance that you give them more to think about the topic than they already know. So if you feel you have to say something, i guess you should ‘just do it’.
Every job has competition, but that does not mean we do not take up that particular job. We need to face up these situations and come over it. We can take up blogging to an altogether different level and work it out in our own way differently.
This is great. Just the other day I was thinking about a blog topic and stumbled upon someone who wrote their own article on it, but I spinned it a bit. I added my own opinion into the mix and became emotionally invested in the blog post, rather than just being informative. It took a similar blog post in a different direction. This is great to read moving forward making blog posts.
I typically write as I go. I really love blogging. I just bought a camera to do some vlogs, and post them on youtube.
I tried a couple bloggin’ and gave because I didn’t generate much traffic and not ranking high in Google really put me down. Now I learned backlinks is where everything is at. Build your backlinks and have high quality content is key to have a successful blog/website.

The question “Do we REALLY need another blog about [our topic]” does sometimes creep into my mind, but I quickly reverse my thoughts by thinking of how I can be of help more to my readers by giving them the information that they need through my blog. Their feedback is the one that gives me encouragement and inspires me to continue. Seeing other blogs on top of mine in the search rankings push me to improve and although I consider them as competitors, I try to look up to them as models from which I can draw lessons and tips that would help me enhance my blog.
Hi. I’ve never been good with writing. I do read a lot.
However, I rather build a niche site than write a blog.
It’s kind of difficult to interact with people, and above all a blog has to be updated regularly.
Which brings me to this question: When do you plan to come back blogging ? 🙂

1st of all i would like to say i love the theme of this blog. very girly..
blogging is a way of communications. its right its like a book.
i noticed also that smart people likes blog/blogging.,but the only problem is how to make a blog popular.
Adding content weekly is what I like to do, not every day (I still work a day job)
And building backlinks myself (try to do 5 per day) but it can take a month for them to show.

Actually, I’ve always believed that I can bring new information, specific information that may help clarify the confusion and bring more light on the subject I write. Although I knew that the competition was tough, just not think about it, I just helped my motivation. Thanks for this space!
Remarkable write up and needful for the bloggers. But it can’t be set aside that high quality content is essential to make a blog successful. For Bloggers, they should write about something they love, otherwise they will show no ardor in their writing and if there is no ardor, their writing will undergo. So find a topic you are contented with and write only about that….

By chance I realised I could write, I enjoyed educating myself and have learnt much, I’ve learnt that positivity is important – looked on the bright side and seen what ‘opportunity’ might be there …… and the best thing of all is meeting many other wonderful bloggers ..

Hi Barbara – what you say is so true… it’s easy to get discouraged. Our blog started off very slowly and got picked up by the BBC after a couple of years which really boosted the exposure – I think the challenge is just to keep trying new things and getting yourself out there – eventually it will pay off for new bloggers!
I think the most significant thing about blogging is the matter you want to share with your audience. By matter I mean the ideas and concepts. Though I have come across a number of blogs which don’t have any relevant thing to share but are just there. I personally don’t consider them blogs.
I started blogging to document my journey from “lifelong eczema” to healed skin. My “eczema” was caused by the topical steroids I had been prescribed to treat it. So in actuality, I do not have eczema, I have red skin syndrome (topical steroid addiction). I thought it was important for me to write about it because there is not a whole lot of research publicized on topical steroid addiction or the withdrawal process and what I write could help someone else going through the same thing.
I started blogging about my life with Social Anxiety as a way of trying to expose myself through text and vlogs, to hopefully ultimately “beat” the disorder.. I’ve just started though so we’ll see how it goes.
True, blogging is like writing and there is a lot of blog in the same topic, it is why it could be very interesting to find a niche and become a leader on it !

Interesting read..and I do agree. I’m kinda new on this blogging scene and been trying to rank my Fuelfixer site for the past couple of months now. Though it’s different from a personal blog, getting people to notice is still a tedious task indeed!
My greatest problem with bloging is that I’ve made so many blogs, and after few weeks or months I loss interesting for that one and made new one. So I’ve loss quality and conistancy for olds blog and allways want to make new one, which will be more interesting and so. The competition is really stiff in the blogging world so you must find a way to get noticed and attract readers to subscribe to your posts.. talking about be, I try and write how I talk. Sometimes it works better than others, but at least it’s being me. Besides, I don’t think I could write any other way..
I started my blog because I wanted a complete site targeting Youths interested in Social Media n Tech. Though there are already too many websites in this domain but I am just trying to focus on those topics which really matters to youth.
I’m getting so addicted to reading blogs …it’s dangerous and takes up a lot of time …you really start to notice the good from the bad and start to expect high quality. Typo’s are the most irritating ..if people can’t be bothered to re-read their work then they shouldn’t be blogging. IMO :o)

I decided to start blogging originally because I wanted to make money and help people. I quickly learned that does not work. You need to know what you’re talking about and have an underlying business model. I was young and inexperienced when I started though 6 years ago or so 🙂
Starting blog with original & organic ways will become successful blog. The more original content + organic SEO you do. The more juice you will get 🙂

people think blogging is easy. it’s not easy at all in my opinion. but in order to see if blogging is for you, you just have to start writing and let time help you decide.

I agree that blogging can be very therapeutic and allow one to get some things off their chest. Need to be careful is that is the medium you are using to vent so that the post still comes across as credible and also maintains a fair and balanced perspective on the topic.
Ultimately, you need to enjoy what you are doing. I think even if you are blogging, the subjects must really match your interest. In this way,you can translate your thoughts to your audience. This will bring in a group of niche readers that are strongly aligned to your thoughts which eventually turn into loyal readers.
blogging is like venting the inner me onto papers which helps me to feel better (earning is a secondary issue and frankly I dont care if i am earning from my blog or not). it is a place where i am free to express whatever I feel, want, watch or observe. I love my blog.
Blogging has been tough since its been only a few days back since I started, its quite hard to get the kind of viewership you expect, so I guess I will have to put in extra efforts more consistently.

Blogging for me usually falls into one of two reasons. The first is just wanting to clear up misinformation or convey information that people need to know. The second falls into therapy to help me just get something off my chest

As you mentioned above, I see the reality as competition and motivation to be better.
We are all have a different writing style and audience. However, I don’t forget the fact I should write something many people like. I try to gain the widest possible audience and then do my best.
I decided to jump in the blogging pool because there are a lot of people that sell safes and security items, but not a lot who explain what each person needs for their home or office, makes sense to give customers all the information they could possibly need!
For me, blogging is not just a job, it is also a hobby. Blogging is my of expressing my ideas on issues or topics that I read. It is my way of sharing my knowledge to others. May it be similar to others or not, our main goal as bloggers is to inform or ask about we know or we want to know. So there is no need to be afraid in posting blogs.
Yes blogging is very much similar to book writing. I started blogging just to pass my time, and now i have started enjoying it. I now feel that blogging has turned on to be my hobby these days.

I think I didn’t have a choice. I love writing and just had to put my thoughts and opinions out there. I loved that I didn’t have to go through a publisher but could self-publish.
What a lovely upbeat post. Thanks. For me, blogging is just an extension of my mouth, which tends to spout a fair bit of nonsense.
I see blogging as a way to hone my writing, see what works me up or leaves me cold. I definitely need to focus on editing. I find I publish and then obsess over a post for a day after that, at least. Rewriting and rewriting. And fretting etc. Far better, I get happy beforehand, but I can’t seem to spot the issues before I publish. I’m sure there are still plenty of issues left as well, but there comes a point where I say, enough! Life moves on, so must your blog.

Nice article Barbara. I guess the most important thing when considering blogging is that you need to actually be interested in what you’re blogging about. Readers will otherwise immediately notice it and probably not keep reading.
I also feel one of the most important things is to manage to get into a rhythm. I found it much more difficult writing my first blog articles than now. And whenever I get caught up in other things and do not blog for month, I feel I again need some time to get it flowing again.
And as you point out, sometimes there are hundreds of people writing about similar things but your way of writing about it or the aspects you stress most will be different and might appeal more to some readers. Just that makes it worth telling the story with your own words.
Blogging is a passion. Some do it for fame and glory. But if you don’t have the passion in writing you will not last long. Do it for passion and money and glory will just follow through.

While there’s a lot of competition, you should also note that a good chunk of them would cease to be any competition after six months. And of course, you could well be the one to drop out from blogging as well.

To be honest, at first I started blogging to have a platform/page I could put behind my Domain Adress. But then I really saw what chances blogging gives you compared to a regular homepage. You can build a own social network with it, choose the topic, and write about how you feel about things or shate yoir opinions. I enjoy blogging a lot.
I have to disagree. A crowded market is one to stay away from unless you have a massive promotions budget. Find a niche, or better yet don’t start a blog at all — write for someone else’s.
I had too many blogs on the same topic, but they talked about one thing or other, not all about careers. so I jumped into the industry to make a huge database of resources!
Well I started blogging because I was really into facebook and wrote long and detailed status updates, and with facebook things go like words in the wind. I put the same effort in my blog and now I have something to call my own.

Very good advice in this article! There are always a hundred reasons why you should never bother starting, why you’ll end up a failure. But if you listen to the naysayers and don’t try, you’ll never succeed!
A professor of mine once told me that there are so many books read on Alexander the Great that you wouldn’t be able to read them all in a single lifetime. But even though many of those books were written by some of the greatest historians to ever live, we still see new books about Alexander all the time. There is always more knowledge to add, always a different angle yet to be explored.

This is something I have to tell my clients and students over and over again: You just have to start and see where it takes you.
When I started, I was held back by fears that everything I wanted to say had already been said. In hindsight, I couldn’t have been more wrong, and I’m glad I took the leap anyway.
It’s kind of like dogs (or pets, if you prefer). There are many breeds of dogs. Some people like poodles, while others like schnauzers. There are more than enough for everyone.
Not the world’s best analogy, but it shall do for now 😉
If you’re hesitating, just do it. Just start.

I do agree its about standing out from the crowd. The key to this in my opinion is adding your own opinions on the what you are blogging about.

There are SO many travel blogs out there but we decided to join the amazing travel community because we have a lot to offer on the matter! We’ve been travelling the world for 4 years now on a budget. My favorite thing about blogs is discovering them years after the author has given up. You’re looking back into the past and seeing how they felt about events that happened years ago. I remember finding one from 1997 🙂 Man, that’s 16 years ago!

If we need to create additional blogs with different topic/niche, then we must assure to ourselves that we can sustain, maintain and take care of all of them. My top goal at blogging is to share my thoughts and be able for my audience to gain fruitful information, if it’s not that necessary to create new blogs then I must keep my writings intact in one place.
Blogs with the same topic are a great motivator to be better. Also you can use then as an inspiration, you can find and publish a lot of stuff that are missed by these blogs…

I have to say it’s really annoying me at the minute to spend so much time and effort on my blog to make it appealing, responsive and interesting and the vast majority of comments I get are spam. I enjoyed writing and liked the idea that I could self publish. In the beginning I was experimenting with writing and blogging, and promoting my business as well. It’s the hope of making a difference and the thrill of being able to voice my opinions that got me started on this journey. Blogging requires constant creativity, but checking the news daily always feeds my personal thirst for knowledge and keeps posts current since I can write with a mindfulness of news.
I started blogging for making money online, but now I am very much interested in it. I write posts myself and sometime put them in scheduler so that they are posted automatically at preset time and date. I do so when I go for vacations.

Very inspirational. I sometimes think of blogs as art, there are countless paintings out there, but each and every one has its own artistic value. Like two paintings of the same topic, a viewer will take some different away from each.

Against all advice I picked a very populated niche. But upon checking out other people’s sites, I could see about 5 ways that I could gain more of an audience than the competition. It’s been 6 months. First 3 months went to building the site. Last 3 months have been about driving traffic and getting page rank. I show up on page 5 of Google currently. But I figure within the year I will be up to at least page 2. The difference? I definitely see other blogs as a way of making things better. Personally I want to appeal to a younger generation. I overcame a very rough childhood at a very young age so this is the audience I’m targeting.
It’s good if you have the attitude of just doing it..!! I have not been successful at few things I’ve worked earlier till i start setting up the goals and milestones if you do that you know where you’re going and how much efforts are required..!!! So with the attitude of just doing it you need to concentrate on your goals as well
Finding a purpose for my blog, and making that purpose one to help other people achieve their dreams like I have, makes writing my blog easier and more fulfilling and more fun
I see this blog world as more of an industry or a market, like any other. It’s a competition. Does my content stack up against my competitors? Well, let’s find out! I love the competition, and the lack of barrier’s to entry. Let the best blogger win. It’s fun to put yourself out there and see what kind of response you will get. Unlike books, which are relatively difficult to get published (I worked for Wiley Publishing years ago), any blogger can be published. It’s content that is the key. Not industry relationships or anything corporate like that.
Good to see you are still going strong Barbara, I stopped blogging a few years due to lots of changes in my life but still remember this place as one of the places I used to come for some inspiration back then. But just like Alex, am thinking it has been a while since you, I know that is rich coming from me!
Blogging is such a personal thing — often hard to put into words why people do it when there is such competition (and, let’s face it, it’s such hard work!). I love the analogy with books — that’s a nice one and one that should make new bloggers feel better about getting started in a world full of blogs!

i agree with you that if you want to start a blog this is the right time to do this. Even when i started blog i do not know anything about this now i am running four successful blogs. And yes i also agree with you that every blog has its own audience and you have to write for them and try to attract other audiance also. that is all
