You can do backups on the cpanal of your webhost (database), as well as on your WordPress blog. If you go to your dashboard, then to manage, and then to export. You can save an XML file on your hard drive. You can also check with your webhost to see if they do automatic updates for you. Currently I do not have a post to refer you to.
