Today I have something for everyone.

First, to recap the week,

1) On Monday we talked about our online presence. That is, how do others “see” us. As witnessed in the comment section, our words hold more power than even a picture could.

2) Sunil, and his blog “Blogger’s Lab” was introduced on Tuesday.

3) On Wednesday I shared a sampling of favorite posts which are currently buried in the archives of some of the BWAB bloggers.

4) Yesterday we banned together to help Chase March who is struggling to build his blog. The ideas and suggestions shared in the comment section prove to be great ways for anyone to build their readership.

Joanna Young of Confident Writing showcased a free ebook written by Chris Brogan. It’s titled: “Personal Branding for the Business Professional”. Having read it (it’s 15 pages), I found it’s not only helpful to business people, but for bloggers as well. It’s a great read and would certainly add value to your library of blogging books.

Now for the Monthly Mini Meme (MMM). Remember this one? I share one random thing about myself and you’re invited to do the same. It’s my way of sharing a little more about me, and us learning more about you, too.

My random fact is: I’ve lived in six states. Of those, I lived in two, twice. They are: Michigan, Illinois, California (x2), Alaska (x2), Washington, and Oregon.

Today’s Assignment

1) Share a random fact about yourself

and/or

2) Share your answer to my question:

Do you use Twitter? If so, what are the pros and cons?

For those who celebrated the holiday last Monday, I hope you enjoyed your short week. I know I did.

To recap the week:

On Tuesday, Pun Intended was named New Blog Of The Week

Wednesday we discussed how we can use our blogs to benefit others.

And yesterday, we took the blinders off and discussed visiting blogs with opposing ideas/opinions.

For those who didn’t follow the comments, Jennifer’s comment on yesterday’s post reminded me of an important issue.

If we’re visiting another person’s blog, and we disagree with what they’ve written, please show them the same respect you would like to see on your blog. Our blogs are our homes in blogosphere. Treat others as you would like to be treated.

Secondly, as Natural stated, when disagreeing on the content of a post, stick to the issue and do not attack the author. Remember, they’ve provided the information for free, and even though we may not agree with what is written, the author is still a human being.

Behind the scenes I been working on getting my blog load faster.

I’ve removed all plugins I’m not using and also took down my comment counter. I was able to shave nearly a second off of the load time.

While researching how load time affects our visitors, it’s written if our blog is too slow to load, we risk losing visitors/readers.

Anytime we have plugins, widgets, avatars, images, ads, and/or some issues behind the scenes, our load time is put at risk. Ideally we should aim for a load time of under 2 seconds.

To test your own blog’s load time, I’ve found several sites that supply a free service to do so. They are:

1) www.iWebtool.com
2) www.SubmitExpress.com
3) www.WebsiteOptimization.com

Today’s Assignment

To start off this weeks “Open Mic”, I have two questions for all of you.

1) If a blog is slow to load (in your browser), do you click off, continue to visit it, and/or do you remove it from your reader?

2) How often are you performing a “save” (backup) of your blog?

Questions, comments and concerns are welcome.

It’s been another busy week here at BWAB and for me in my real life. As the week comes to a close, it’s time to recap what we’ve learned.

This week’s posts included:

1) A.S.K. Liz – How do You Inspire Your Readers To Join Your Community
2) New Blog Of The Week – Writer Dad
3) Parties, Spam and Hanging Chads
4) Self Promotion From The Archives

Behind the scenes I’ve been experimenting with the following plugins.

1) Liz Strauss’ Comment Count Badge See mine in the right sidebar.

It’s an easy plugin to download, use and configure. For details and screen shots, check out Lorelle’s blog post titled:My Comment Count Is Bigger Than Your Comment Count

2) The What Would Seth Godin Do (WWSGD) plugin is shown on the top of each post.

It’s a typical download, and once activated the message in the rectangular box and easily be changed. To witness how other bloggers are using this plugin, check out Catherine Lawson’s great ideas.

3) Ozh’s Absolute Comments lets you reply to comments directly from your “comments” screen.

With this plugin you can answer one comment at a time. If you choose to answer more than one, the only way I’ve found to accomplish that is by entering your replies directly on the post screen.

To read more on comments, check our Joanna Young’s post titled: 10 Practical Ways To Boost Blog Comments and Conversation

Today’s Assignment

To start off this weeks “Open Mic”, I have two questions for all of you.

1) Are you more apt to read a blog if the RSS feed reader count shows a high number?

2) With the introduction of Liz’s Comment Count Plugin, would the display of comment counts influence you to join in on the conversations?

The floor is yours. You know the rules.

Questions, comments and concerns are welcome.
