During my blogging journey I realized how difficult it is to get found in blogosphere.

With millions of blogs on the world wide web, we can easily begin to feel like a tiny pebble in a gigantic ocean. With any luck, our blog will be one that gets discovered, however until that happens we can spend countless hours trying to get our name “out there”.

In October of 2008 I created the Blog Registry. It started with one lone comment and now sports the names and stories of over 270 bloggers. Some are blogging as strong as ever, whereas others have given up.

Although the Blog Registry was originally housed on this blog, with it’s continuing growth, I felt it was time to give it a home of it’s own.

Hence, the “Free Blog Registry” was born.

If you have a chance, check out the new home I’ve created for blog authors to showcase their blogs, as well a great place to meet other bloggers.

If you haven’t done so already, feel free to add your name to the growing list. Just click on the above image or the link at the top of the sidebar and follow the instructions.

If you’d like to leave a comment with regard to the Free Blog Registry, please do so below since the Free Blog Registry is exclusively for blog submissions only.

My next lesson will be published on Wednesday, September 8th, 2010.

Happy Blogging!

P.S. If you’re in the States, I hope you’re enjoying the Labor Day holiday.

As of today, there are 235 entries.

Some of the blogs are now nonexistent, some of the authors are on hiatus, but others are going strong.

As I was reviewing the entries I saw many familiar bloggers and although I don’t know how much traffic an entry in the Blog Registry gets you, my hope is it helps.

My visit to the Blog Registry got me thinking.

Today’s Lesson

I don’t know about you, but I enjoy hearing why others started their blogs and learning why they named it what they did?

Was it a light bulb moment, or did they carefully choose each word? Did they pick a name knowing it would help with search engine optimization (SEO) or did they just take a stab in the dark?

For myself, the name “Blogging Without A Blog” happened quite by accident. In my “About” page I share how it came about:

When I’m learning anything new, I document the facts in a notebook (much like blogging). That’s what I was doing when I began to learn the blogging process prior to setting up my first blog. After reading and journaling about the blogging/writing process, learning the blogging terminology and what took place behind the scenes, I stared down at the dozens of pages of notes I had in front of me and penned, “here I am, blogging without a blog”. Hence, the name was born.

Although it sounds like a silly name, it appears to be memorable.

As mentioned above, I enjoy hearing why bloggers name their blogs what they do. Will you share your story with me?

Today’s Assignment

What inspired you to name your blog(s) what you did?

What do you hope others will find when they visit you?

.

P.S. If you haven’t added your name to the Blog Registry, please feel free to do so.

Do you have any questions or concerns?

If so, this is the post on which to leave them.

I may have forgotten a thing or two in the rules, so as time passes I may be adding additional items.

My hope is everyone plays by the rules and we end up with dozens, or hundreds of names of bloggers who think like we do, and/or are looking to grow their communities and/or make friends in the process.

The mic is open.

The floor is yours.

Share your thoughts on my new feature. I’m all ears.

Welcome to Blogging Without A Blog’s “Blog Registry”.

As a blog author, I love to find and promote other bloggers. Additionally, I love to introduce bloggers to each other. For that reason, I’ve created a “Blog Registry”.

This post will remain open indefinitely. If you are a blogger, leave a comment and introduce yourself to other bloggers telling them why your blog is worthy of visiting.

Remember, this is a great opportunity to “sell yourself”.

For hints on what to include in your introduction, I would suggest:

1) Your name and a brief description of who you are
2) The name of your blog
3) The subject of your blog
4) What others can expect when they land on your blog
5) One link to your blog is acceptable. If you have more than one blog, leave two comments.

If you haven’t done so already, a “welcome” post (on your blog) might be a good idea. In it, tell new visitors more about your blog, list your favorite posts and/or most commented on posts, etc. Upon completion of your “welcome post”, leave your comment and link to that post.

Here are the Blog Registry rules:

1) Only one link is permitted within your comment (CommentLuv may be providing a second link)
2) Each blog must have written content – No “advertising only” blogs are permitted
3) No nudity or obscene language is allowed
4) No spamming or duplicate entries will be approved.
5) For this post only, it’s essential your introductory comment(s) stay on topic.*
6) Your comment may go into moderation or my spam folder. Please be patient while I sort through the entries as I will be visiting your blog prior to approval.

This is a great opportunity for all bloggers who hope to meet other bloggers, grow your blog communities, and increase traffic to your blogs.

Spread the word and tell others to join in.

I’m looking forward to seeing your name on the list.
