I think that’s why I end up with little scraps of paper, as I get ideas when I’m getting ready in the morning, or when I’m cooking, and I grab a piece of paper, receipt, or whatever I find to write on, and scribble my thoughts.

I think you are right about the “ones that get away”. You have to make room for a bigger idea, so no sense cluttering your brain with worry.

Using your phones recorder is a brilliant idea. My kids are used to me pulling over suddenly to jot down an idea when driving. I'm also notorious for having brilliant ideas while in the shower or washing dishes. When, oh when, will they invent waterproof notebooks and pens? Don't regret the missed ideas. I always believe that they or something better will return when you can get them down, and if they don't then the idea wasn't as great as it seemed anyway.
