In my journey of setting up this blog, and my www.observationmountain.com blog, I gained tons of knowledge from other bloggers. The first website I found helpful was www.stevepavlina.com. He writes on life’s issues as well as on blogging. I listened to a lot of his podcasts, and read many of his articles. He’ll go far in his career.

The second website I found helpful was www.problogger.net. Darren Rowse shares tons on information on blogging and it’s all free. He is well versed and how he explains things is quite easy to understand.

The third website I found helpful, especially as I was setting up WordPress, was www.lorelle.wordpress.com. Lorelle is what I call the “Queen of WordPress”. It appears she has had a lot of experience with blogging and knows WordPress like the back of her hand.

I also want to thank www.wordpress.net for supplying this blog “software” for free, as well as www.briangardner.com for the beautiful template I started with, and www.prioritydigital.com for the free Privacy Policy and Terms of Use statements. A lot of us probably wouldn’t be blogging if it weren’t for these generous websites.

An update, as of April 11th, I changed my theme, and want to thank Lisa Sabin-Wilson at www.justagirlintheworld.com for the one I’m using now. Unfortunately I messed with the HTML on my other theme and until I figure out how to correct that boo-boo, I have switched to the theme you’re looking at now. Update: As of June 17, 2007, I switched my theme to the current one, from Performancing.com. It seems to be a better “fit” for me and my blog.

All of these websites are definitely worth checking out. All of these creative people and their websites/blogs have been most helpful to me. With that, to them, I say a big worldly “Thank You”.

Hint: If you add links to your blog, remember to test them. If you make an error, just go back to “Manage”, click on the “Posts” tab, then on “Edit” (this will bring your post back on the screen), make the necessary corrections, then hit the “Save” button and retest your links.

I’m finding that getting very familiar with your WordPress blog pages is very important. I recently signed up for a Paypal business account, and then I added a Paypal “donate button” on my blog. I played around with it for awhile, and had to correct a few things in my post, as when I clicked on the donate button, it wasn’t giving me the Paypal page. I went back to “manage” and then “pages” and deleted the HTML code from the “code” page I had entered, and then reentered it. Then it worked right.

Hint: When you look at your screen and you are entering a post on WordPress, you will see a “Visual” tab and a “Code” tab. I believe if you are entering an HTML code, it has to go on the “Code” page. What I also did was save the HTML code to a Wordpad page, and that way I will have access to it later. Little by little I am beginning to understand HTML, but am planning on taking a crash course on how it works and what all of the symbols mean.

For a novice, learning how to blog correctly, as well as how to make changes, is a time consuming process. However, if you’re serious about it, like I am, taking the time to learn correctly will make all the difference in the world.

Plus, from what I’ve read, it takes awhile to get your blog on the World Wide Web (WWW), so I’m going to try and fine tune my pages, write posts, and make the necessary changes. I feel it’s worth taking the time to get it right and produce a great blog.

Over two weeks ago I was all set to create my www.observationmountain.com, blog. But then I realized, I wasn’t ready.

I didn’t know what my first step should be.

In the process of trying to set up my first blog, I inadvertently created a second one…..the one you’re reading.

During my “journey” of learning how to “blog”, I kept a journal of the process I followed, mistakes and all. It’s those writings which has become the platform for this site.

Today I got this blog online.

I’m not totally happy with the template/theme I chose, but so far it’s my favorite.

I’m in the learning process, still journaling.

It’s from those notes, that I will build this blog.

Wish me luck! :)
